Technically speaking it's fine. The issue is that the awkward looking "90s manga mixed with generic newspaper cartoons" style isn't really all that appealing and looks like it belongs in an old school textbook or a cheap religious cartoon you'd find a local tv channel.
He's also just really uncreative and uninspired when it comes to character designs and designs in general. Pic related is a good example. Iconic characters with famous designs that most people all over the world are familiar with like Goku and Sailor Moon are getting beat up by

>the most generic looking pirate captain imaginable
>some yellow cat/dog/thing that kind of looks like marsupilami

Since he wanted to make comics, the biggest issue he faced there was just being a really bad and boring writer, mainly the latter. People still talk about Sonichu and others remember other bad webcomics like Lightbringer, Pastel Defender Heliotrope, Moon Over June, etc. But virtually nobody ever talks about any of Dobson's non-autobiographical/political soapbox/bad opinion comics despite the fact that he made like half a dozen different comic series (which only lasted two volumes at best, but still) because there's barely anything to discuss about them. They're all so fucking boring, tropey, and are on par with d-list newspaper funnies.

And what's sad is that if he learned to take criticism, learned to write or hired a decent writer, he could've had decent success. His art is middling, but if the writing was serviceable, he could've found a decent career selling his comics online. Dobson is just such a massive prick it's impossible for anyone to even tolerate him. That pasta explaining all the boards on 4chan hate him says it better than I could.
