Do not do this shit on any major social media platform (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) These platforms are not dumb. They know what you're doing when you use engagement groups. They know you're trying to game the system. Engagement groups have been a thing for a long time and Instagram & others know what they are, and they know how to spot obvious patterns that indicate a user is artificially trying to boost their engagement. You're not being sneaky and smart when you try and use an engagement group - it's a terrible idea and a giant waste of time.

> create genuine interaction
Engagement groups are not "genuine interaction".

>(I really think that it should be the best way to promote one's art
Didn't you just say that you learned about engagement groups today? How can you then claim that they're the "best way to promote one's art"?

OP, you are a moron.

This may be the dumbest post I've ever seen.

There is no art related get-rich-quick schemes you can take advantage of, especially considering your current condition (amateurish work, no following, no business experience, etc.).

Don't even bother going down this road, OP. Focus on getting rehired at a normal job and pay off your debt. In the short term, try and see if there are any grants you can take advantage of for people struggling financially during the pandemic.

Why is this (or coomer art) always the default, go-to way to make a living on this board? This board has complete tunnel vision on sci-fi / fantasy illustration, video game art, furries & porn.

Time after time, I am astonished at how many morons on this board have absolutely no idea what it means for something to be "vector".

Why in the name of the holy lord jesus christ do people do this?

OP you'll just need to post your work if you want any real, substantive advice about your work and what you need to do.

Will you fucking morons stop suggesting that someones social media success hinges on whether or not you draw fan art or lewd work? It's just a lazy cop out excuse to not actually addressing issues and not for putting in the hard work to make things better.

How about instead of making baseless excuses, you actually examine >>4292209 's pages to try and see why they have so few followers? I did, and - big surprise - it's pretty blatantly obvious. Here's a few obvious reasons:

1. The biggest issue is just a lack of posting their own work (twitter has several reposts, Instagram is more clear). At best, they post 2-3 times a month. There are huge gaps spanning almost 2 months between their posts. If this person actually wanted to grow their following, then this is a terrible and sporadic posting schedule to keep. This is the #1 issue to not having more followers. If you don't post regularly, you will grow at a snails pace. Not posting enough is especially a missed opportunity for this guy since he actually has a great engagement rate (atleast on IG). The ~200 followers he does have seem to love his work.
2. They really aren't "so great at art". Some of the studies are okay, and their fundamental skills are alright, but what are they making? Stiff, awkward character art of attractive women that are usually unfinished. The rest is mediocre studies. Looks like the work of thousands of other similar digital artist. There is no unique stylistic selling point to their work. Again - it's not bad, it's just nothing special.
3. Hashtag use is a little unoptimized, There are some hashtags, but there could be more.

Remember that this artist clearly states they are a hobbyist in their profile. The fact that they only have 200 followers is not a big deal, and they seem to be enjoying their work - that's great for them. Telling them they're "NGMI" because they don't post lewds or fan art is just dumb.
