Anytime really, The Vilppu drawing manual starts out with that actually.
I found that the most use you get out of them is in the shorter/ simpler ones, up to the 2 min range, since that forces you to ignore the detail.
It can be quite abstract so it might be some time untill you feel like you really understand it, so it's best not to obsess over it.
If you feel stuck look at how different artists approach it, theres a lot of styles that emphasize different things, the way one artist approaches it might just not connect with you that much.

Think of it like the difference between drawing contour vs. understanding form, it's a new way of seeing things.
Understanding gesture is going to make your drawing come to life in a way that just copying reference or mannequins will never do.
