2d(drawn on paper) cartoon designs clash when put in 3rd dimensions, which allows the eye to see the character in every angle; where as cartoons can choose whether or not to show that angle or just hide them in smear frames.
Anime culture is autistic and dedicated in making their girls kawaii as possible- 3dcg anime hires 2d animators to draw on top of their footage to add more life/force in the movements and gestures. They put special attention to the faces, and try to make their 3d "give the 2d impression as much as possible" (I think).

Imitating animu in the 3dpd realm results in uncanny valley (unless if the fictional character is based on realism like Marvel Movies or heavily based on it). Even if the human is beautiful and the costume is very well done, its not the same and there's an unsettling feeling of something being 'off'. Hardcore animufags- or anyone who watches anime on the regular are used to seeing 2D characters- so that's why you see a lot of them bitching about 3dcg anime, even if its cel-shaded or does its best to make it look like anime.
