Soul flied away from "capes" at the end of the 80s, when kids stopped reading them, the moment where the genre should had just fucking die instead of being kept standing on with sticks
The whole (fake, but that's another topic) ideology behind American super heroes simply doesn't exist anymore, and they just repurposed its glamorous exterior to serve as infinitely exploitable husk that can be filled with anything.
Shit like my hero gay ass sure takes visual inspiration from America, but everything inside is extremely Japanese super heroes, something that have common roots with the USA ones, but are ultimately a different breed.
You could say that for their intrinsic viscerality and distance from the aforementioned American ideology, Japanese super heroes have more noticeable amount of "soul", but in the end they both are extremely tired horses, and both, even if in different amounts, have limped very far from their cultural roots whipped by their greedy owners.
There is nothing more removed from the all permitting, morally relative, haunted behind every digital corner by horrors beyond every kind of ethical social construct modern day than the archetype of the super hero.
One could argue, that's exactly why it's so fitting. But aren't the false idols of today already enough?
Is a laic saviour figure any different from the ones religion offers when they've been showed time and time again we'll less than sacred as they proclaim to be?
