Understandable.

I don't think a lot of people who've never "taken charge" are very comfortable with the act of doing so itself, and this is what makes a team of friends a perilous arrangement for a long-term project in particular. It might be extremely difficult for you to bring yourself to tell random people what to do, but I imagine it is substantially more difficult to criticize or direct someone whom you have a preexisting relationship with for fear that this relationship may be harmed in some way.

Unfortunately that seems to be a very justified fear going by both my own personal anecdotes and some of the posts in this thread.
