the original is better, and works better for animation, bc it has better gesture and line sense

compare the green girls. there's a clearer silhouette. the girl's chin and rollneck top form a nice clear outward line, whereas the redraw has the chin and the top complicating it. in the original, the breast, the point of the shot, has a clearer place in the composition cause the shoulder's not in the way. the redraw also breaks in the middle, which means our eyes pause to parse it instead of quickly sliding over it.

in the original the cheek has a nice upwards direction, complemented by the vertical mouth and uptilted nose, in the redraw the cheek line is less dynamic, mouth is sideways halting the gesture, nose points frontwards instead of up. underneath the ear, there's a nice smooth hairline line that cups the head's form, in the redraw it's gone. also the earrings ain't cute

now red girl, in the original her eyes are closer to the bottom of her head, emphasising she's looking at the titty. that's lost in the redraw, although out of context she doesn't look bad

the eyes are also a lot more pinpoint in the redraw, it makes them look less relaxed. i don't know if that is a good or bad thing for the scene, but it's worth mentioning

you need to understand: college is not like high school- nobody's going to chase you up and demand you go to classes, or spoonfeed you homework answers or whatever. they get paid whether you attend or not. it is incredibly easy to do all the assignments, pass, and leave with the diploma without ever having actually challenged yourself artistically. likewise, how much you learn or improve will be entirely under your own steam.

in addition to the fact that self-helpers don't have professors to consult, you have to take into account materials. my uni has a gigantic library with tons of rare art books. it also has fancy animation desks, easels, absurdly expensive computer hardware, and cameras with lenses that cost more than my parent's house. i get full run of that free while i go there. for some art disciplines, doing things entirely out of your own pocket just isn't practical.
