I draw loose and sketchy construction, and then actively go for good linework when drawing over that construction. In a way it gives me an outlet for that bad habit, so I don't fall into it where it really counts.
As I see it, with construction, anything goes as long as it works. Think of it like scaffolding. It's not part of the final product and doesn't have to be pretty.
