Buy darren rousar's book on sight-size. follow it exactly for 3-5 drawings. Instead of a cast you can use matte spraypaint on a cheap lawn gnome. Take your time, get things exactly right. Sightsize is super restrictive, but doing 120-200 hours of it will jumpstart your ability for all other drawing.

I don't care either way but for their own good it's probably best to stick to /beg/ and really nail down fundamentals. Hell, stick to pencil+charcoal; guy really isn't there for paint yet, just wasting money and time until they get block-ins and value control/organization down.

Otherwise he might get delusional and end up with his head up his ass and become like illastrat.
