Also endorses this method of picking shadow colors.

Also I notice you seem to be a little unsure of your use of saturation. There are many reasons to saturate/desaturate a colors but generally what I have found is
>Alternate saturated/desaturated colors as you pick lighter/darker colors, pic related demonstrates this, though you don't need to do it as dramatically as him
>use saturated colors for elements that are meant to be focal points of the image or otherwise stand out (think eyes, important objects, breasts and dicc if you're drawings lewds)
>Conversely, use desaturated colors for elements meant to recede in the image. This is atmospheric perspective, and in reality you only see in on very distant objects but you can exaggerate it for compositional effect
>generally, it can help to stat with more saturated colors for your base colors. Your highlights and shadows will usually be more desaturated, and will make the colors of the object look a bit more washed out, so if you are going for a lively color palette try to pick bright, bold colors first as your shading will neutralize them. It is easy to dull down a bold color, but it is hard to make a dull color pop again

He put out some mini-guides on them a while back and they're really enlightening, I'll try to find the other ones
