The result is the result. Copyhacks will be copyhacks, and artists who learn their subject through and through and then apply knowledge to good reference, like Rockwell, will make the truly great stuff. Pic related is far more realistic take on the process of using and interpreting reference. This artist is a pro, but the idea is the same, the ratios are just different. As a /beg/ you may have to focus more on study, but this idea that it's wrong to start with a good reference will eventually just hold you back. It's just one method. There are others. Do what it takes for the drawing.

i was about to answer but then i thought that if i had this whole problem with relying on reference too much then i probably dont know how to use it correclty lol
