I'd dedicate a day or two to finding and exporting keyframes from various animations which I'd later re-draw

Keep in mind he probably thinks you should do the keyframes in order, like re-drawing all the keyframes of one shot in order for example

But yeah, like I said, don't trace because then you're gonna have a higher chance of just doing everything mechanically without much thought which is opposite of the point of the exercise and that's to get you to understand what exactly you're doing and how stuff moves
