What is the point of art for (you)? Is it mostly about pretty pictures or do you tell yourself there's something more going on?

I think the story of this is that the letter is trouble for the guy who's the boss of this jester and it means he's gonna be out of a job

Do you perhaps mean this picture? The title is 'Stańczyk', by the Polish painter Jan Matejko. It was painted in 1862, so definitely not anywhere near the Renaissance period.

Secondly, the character in the painting, Stańczyk, was a famous court jester, not just a guy in a devil costume. He is not chilling, but worrying about bad news concerning the country, while the rulers and nobles party.

OP, normally I would ignore posts like this, but your ignorance is of such enormity, like a massive black hole, that I can't help being sucked towards it.

1. Artists all over the world are still practicing what you call 'real art': classical realism using traditional techniques and media. You just don't know about it because you need to get your nose out of tumbr and deviantart and look beyond that. Hey, sushi is great but if you ever only go to Japanese sushibars, you do not have the right to complain that the food is always the same.

2. Popular culture has changed so what you call ' real art' simply isn't that popular anymore. We live in an increasingly faster and more digital society. Ideas, tastes and society have changed and are changing all the time.

3. You have no idea what you are talking about. What do you mean by 'real art', what do you mean by 'everybody is following these modern art styles?' Do you know what is the Renaissance and when it occurred? Before you complain, could you at least make an effort to educate yourself. Then you would also be able to actually answer your own question.

I really do sympathize with Stańczyk. Seems like all too often there are folks in our immediate circles who don't pay enough attention to what's going on.
