I assume you're using greyscale because you're uncomfortable with color and want to learn value first, but the thing about value is that it needs contrast. When you use the same similar grey color for the whole image, all the shapes and objects blend together and nothing stands out. If you're going to use greyscale, you should think about it in terms of how you will use the tones to make the different shapes in your composition stand out or blend together in order to make a clear and appealing image
