When you're trying to draw, how do you know where to put the lines? Do you just sort of guess and correct as you go via trial and error? Or is there some other method that lets you know where the lines go? A lot of artists just seem to know somehow, almost like they are tracing an hallucination or something. But I struggle with this and can't seem to work out the secret. Am I missing something?

>You're missing shapes, forms, perspective. Everything you draw is extremely flat. I know for certain the person in this image would be able to turn that head and you can't.
Which is what I understand but i feel like using anything other than loomis might make things difficult than they already are, because people say if you don't use fundies first your drawings will look bad and flat which I know they do but I want to use something else other than loomis but copying anything that's not loomis won't feel right, its like I gotta ask permission to use something else other than loomis
>>4629891
Using the loomis head sphere is something like this, right?

Yes, but your heads are not correct. You should get familiar with the Loomis method for drawing heads. Anime artists usually use a simplified version of Loomis for their heads. Your first head guidelines are drawn as if the head was tilting down, yet it is seen from below. The center line is also off. On your second head, the guideline for the eyes is also off, and doesn't follow the eyes, the center line is better, but off where it lands on the chin. I will attach something from an another anon which should help, but you should practice the Loomis way of drawing heads and get comfortable with it, it will greatly help you in future.
