i didn't read it past 3 point perspective, iirc. i practiced by making diagrams like pic related. i don't think it was immediately useful. it seems rather plausible that having a really solid understanding of perspective (how images form on the picture plane as light rays are received by the eyeball) might be helpful in the long run. most people are pretty put off by stuff like this and i'm not necessarily recommending it. but personally, i found it to be interesting and enjoyable

yeah it's a long series of videos (i watched it at like 1.5x speed and skipped 1/3rd of the videos) plus you have to draw along to really retain the information. but yeah, whether or not it's overkill depends on the level of competence you're aiming for. i wasn't comfortable with having a murky understanding of perspective, so i made the investment, and it gave me what i wanted: tools to solve perspective problems
