Years since you started drawing seriously != total hours spent drawing
Many people here say that they've drawn for 4, 5, sometimes even 10 years but they suck. The truth is, you didn't draw for however long you think you drew. Thats just how long its been since you stopped calling yourself a drawer and tried to be a real artist.
I started in late 2016 but have only drawn consistently for a total of 2 years at this point. Half of it was spent not using real life reference. Less than a quarter was spent doing concentrated studies.
You. Have. To. Learn. The. Fundamentals.
Even professionals occassionally get exposed for lacking on certain fundamentals. This board likes to hop on them for that despite the fact that they are overwhelmingly consistent and proficient in most other areas while most of us barely understand a few of the basics and cover up the lack of understanding with sloppy colors and pillow shading.
I acknowledged that I suck fat fucking dicks and that it was entirely my fault for spending all of 2020 fucking around instead of improving like I could have. I'm going to make up for lost time this year.
If I'm not actively attempting to make a finished piece, its going to be fundies. Every day even if just for an hour.
I used to have a "doodles" folder where I would scribble mindless bullshit with no refs. I only realized now how much time I wasted doing absolutely nothing productive and internalizing the same mistakes over and over again when I could've been improving.
The fact that I still see substantial improvement in my work when I practice just for a little while means that I am far from escaping the /beg/ trap house but I'll be damned if I'm not out by the end of the year.
No more excuses.
No more laziness.
Its time to draw.
Today I think I'll draw some titties.

Where would you be in terms of skill and art interests if you never discovered /ic/?
Would you be drawing 10x the amount you do now?
Would you have never started drawing at all?
