Been a while since I came here. Looks like the thread is tamer than before. Lots of good stuff as well.

Work on landscapes and backgrounds (but desu I need to work on pretty much everything), make a decent enough portfolio with a lot of different stuff. Learn new things (3D), maybe open commissions ? Never made the leap.
And of course, finding an art-related job would be good (but there is barely any job opportunity for 2D artists in my country).
