Looks not /beg/ to me. But you aren't drawing people. That's where it's easy to pick out flaws.

With objects or mechanical things like insects, especially when you're using that thick rough hatching style, there is more leeway for error.

I know this was probably just practice, but spending more time on the background will make a much better experience for the viewer. Not abstract lines and shapes.

I dunno, both. It's anime but I'm trying to make my bike realistic like Toriyama's vehicles.
But yeah his originally painted illusrtations don't have hatching.
There's others that were first done in black & white lineart though, and then he just colors underneath so the hatching is kept.
