how do you get yourself to draw when you have zero motivation to do so? there has to be some PRACTICAL trick to it, just like in everything else.

Seen this episode few times already. No matter how abstract your art is, it still can be judged and compared to actually good abstract pieces that don't feel like you are looking at empty piece of cardboard. Tell your professor to teach you about that.
