Anyway, here is something I saved from 2018 which is still relevant today. I saved it as' How to be Illastrat'.

>"composition is important"
>posts godawful, special ed kid tier blotch

here's a cooking recipe to make an Illastrat blotch mess painting:

get your ingredients ready:
- one internet pic of a rapper (or shitty selfie of yourself or your tattoo whale gf)
- a set of random colors, extra tube of pitch black
- brain damage
- small, cheap industrially produced canvas (hobby shop)

>To begin with, run your head into the wall about ten times until you feel terribly dizzy and lightheaded.
>Crop the shit out of your photo
>Now sit down in the corner of your tiny room and throw some random colors on your palette.
>Begin with tracing all outlines of the person in black and make sure to be rubbish at doing so
>Once you're not even halfway finished with your down syndrom version of the person, move on to the background
>Google tablecloth prints, confetti, vaporwave desktop patterns like circles, spirals, checked patterns or old powerpoint backgrounds
>plaster that shit with kindergarten scribbles to fill the emptiness of the background with infantile patterns the way your mind is filled with childish expectations of what a painting can or should be

presentation:
>go on that website where everybody with a sense of taste and reason hates your awful, narcissistic ass
>make a terrible photo with fucked up contrast and whitebalance of the shit you've just smeared all over the canvas
>season with "I am god" - "I'm the best on here" - "is it bc i is black?" - "that painting is ----very successful----"(??? in your living room or what ???) or any other raging stupidity

done, you are Illastrat. ignore constructive criticism and insults.
be sure to come back every other day and do the same thing over and over again, acting like nothing happened.

I think that one of the most important things that makes a piece eye-catching is the use of values and composition. If it's readable in the thumbnail view, it's sure to be an appealing piece up close. Think in terms of broad shapes of light and dark arranged across the canvas, directing the viewer's eyes towards a focal point. If the values are good, it can make up for some weakness in drawing and coloring.

Do your compositional thumbnails FIRST when doing finished pieces. They will help you figure out your placement of everything, so you won't have that moment halfway through the piece when you realize that object you just fully painted would actually look better if it didn't make an awkward tangent with the background.

Some tips:
Zoom out of your work and look at it in thumbnail view. Or back up from the screen and squint your eyes. Is it readable? Would you, as a first time viewer who knew nothing about who's in the picture, understand what's going on?

Convert your piece to grayscale. (Use luminosity mode for a true grayscale. If full saturation yellow and blue look the same in grayscale, it's the wrong mode.) Is it readable? Is there a clear separation between light and shadow, foreground and background? Can you identify the focal point?

If that is meant to be the same value pattern as the photo of the egg in the hand, then your values are wrong.
Separate values into two piles, everything in the light, and everything in the shadow.
Nothing can be in both piles-that's the muddy look you get in pictures.
See here.

because 4chan only tolerates selected types of wanting attention. acting like an asshole on purpose and hating everyone including yourself is an accepted form of attention whoring, because its something everyone can do. attention whoring with your looks or skills is unaccepted, because the average 4chan dweller has neither. dont worry anon, once you step out of your room into the real world, needing and giving attention are the most basic elements of human interaction.

pic unrelated just a tutorial many begs could use

Good job anon, but maybe the light in this reference might be a bit too muddy for a study?
Values are bouncing all over the place. People would accept you in the draw thread, btw
