>trying to be a conceptual painter
>failing at being a conceptual painter

Here's quite a straight forward conceptual painting, by Luc Tuymans. It's a very thin and scarcely executed painting of the interior of a gas chamber and the only thing that reveals this is actually the title "gaskammer" (german). What Tuymans did here is he recreated the architecture of the space in a very reduced painterly fashion, which paradoxically makes this place look friendly with the warm colors used. He put an emphasis on the drain at the bottom and the gas outlets on the ceiling as well as the tiny door, that almost looks comically small in the painting. still, there is an odd shift and edge to the painting, which makes it look out of place.
summarizing: everything about this conceptual piece of a painting is consistent with the intentions. any painting is a commonplace that calls for debate and weighing one opinion up with another, as well as taste. but it can be stated that Tuymans was pretty clear about what he was getting at.

What are you getting at, Jimmy?
How does it show in your paintings? Like, literally point out to us where the "wabi sabi" is in one of your paintings. Where is that beloved entropy concept of yours?

All I see is shitty grimacing celebrities.
