Also all of that is what I consider to be a sketch. First I do the thumbnail/very rough sketch which tend to be quick and sloppy, then I do the real sketch, then line art
I think having a cleaner sketch leads to cleaner line art, just keep line weight in mind too. Pic related is just another sketch though colored
tldr is just draw
Oh right I will add that I feel like getting into traditional lately has been helping me
