Sometimes less detail is better. For hair you don't have to show every crevasse and strand. I smoothed out alot of the parting you had around the crown, then did a overlay layer to darken the hair overall and then with the same overlay i did highlighted areas. The overlay was just a light grey for the light and a dark grey for the dark. Then i darkened the picture overall and did a Luminosity layer on top of everything else and just went along the skin edge and a bit on the hair...erasing where it crossed over areas that shouldn't be lit. Your pic was much too light as it seems like the character is in front of a lit window so the majority of the light should be coming from the window otherwise whats the point in the window? I also selected the bright window areas and did a luminosity layer to brighten them up.

These guys are a really good place to study from. They are more cartoony than weebshit but their tutorials have a wide range of subjects even on how to draw hair and their stuff has helped me tremendously even though i don't do cartoony or weebshit. They also have a DeviantArt.
