Have you tried it now that you have control over where your lines go? Cause as a complete beginner iterative drawing is heavily hindered by the fact that even if you try to draw the exact same thing twice, it will look completely different.

But my guess is you just don't analyze things. You're writing a romance by hand every day and wondering why your calligraphy isn't improving despite all the words you've written.
There is no "I did this wrong" or "I did this right", there is only "I did it". You need a way memorize your corrections. Say it out loud, make notes, test yourself later, find a way to retain this shit.
