Another example. The head of the guy has some clean areas, then a bit grayer and finally black, but this isn't random scribbling it's tons of well oriented lines. It also made the leg look more 3d by remarking the muscles' shadow.

But doing this in miniature is impossible at our level, we don't control the pen well enough to show bright dark and normal values with fine lines in such a small drawing
