>How come artists don't draw this sort of stuff anymore?
What are you talking about? Nicely rendered chicks in knight armor? That's literally one of the most popular subject matter ever in modern illustration and concept art.

What is the fastest way to learn the basics of digital painting? I need to create a few digital paintings for a portfolio as soon as possible but I've barely ever painted. Where should I look into to learn the basics like proper technique, rendering lighting, photoshop settings, etc quickly?

imho it's because gitting gud is actually pretty fucking hard in arts
you can hit the gym, not think about anything other than your training and still make it if you're "strong" enough to keep at it

if you want to git gud as an artist, you have to constantly think about arts, grinding anatomy, perspective, gestures, shadows, colors, values, rendering.. and practice for an eternity

I rarely post my work, but I never got shit on, most of the time people actually help me out with major flaws .. the way it should work, you know?

I think most of the bitter, toxic ones are very bad at what they're doing and just want to bring you down
and there are the ones that don't want to share their position, the "big boys" that look down and shit on you erryday
I'm glad I found a community that actually puts skill over "meaning" or "interpretation", most of my university-colleagues just doodle in their freetime, party everyday and discuss the meaning of paintdrops on a white canvas all day..
or to sum things up

>the way to the top is hard and troublesome, and everyone wants to be the first to make it
