When adding grain, duplicate the painting to another layer (ctrl alt shift e in photoshop), add the grain and start toning down the intensity while turning the grain layer on and off until the grain is barely visible at 100% zoom. Grain is good for stylized stuff when it's barely visible and the audience can more so "feel" the texture. I think the grain is too much here and almost flattens the whole figure in a way that for example fog or atmospheric perspective would.

Just my opinion, though, I've seen a lot of great artists use heavy grain.
