as long as your gesture is capturing the flow/weight/"essence" of the figure it doesn't matter what it looks like
the problem with contour is that people get too wrapped up in it and lose the point of gesture

gesture needs to capture the movement and form and its meant the be quick with few strokes. your drawing is extremely off because you didn't focus on the line of action which is the meat of a gesture
