I find it hilarious how amd shills are trying to hype this up as some kind of "victory", when both platforms are absolutely fucked and still vulnerable to meltdown and spectre. All you need is one vulnerability and that's all there is to it. Intel is like a swiss cheese right now, but it doesn't suddenly make AMD secure when it has vulnerabilities out in the open. Watching this debacle is like seeing enemy ship crews cheering over whose ship is sinking faster. Hilarious.

I'm in a bit of a pickle right now. I can't update, because my hardware just barely does what I need it to, and I can't afford any slowdowns. So I'm just gonna have to deal with these vulnerabilities. I haven't had problems in the past though, since I stopped updating Windows for years now. I don't trust MS to keep my copy of windows 8.1 stable. Also, I do not like keeping personal info on my compy, so if I do get hit, the damage should be minimal.

I just wish these assholes would stop racing eachother to the bottom of the trash can.

The other internet line is connected to a rock64 that has a hard drive hanging off it. Torrenting shit onto there. If this is clean of viruses, as best as I can tell, the hard drive gets transferred to my gayman/compute PC which isn't connected to the network and has no security at all on it. I'm not shilling, but merely stating harsh factual truth of reality. Everything after Sandy is a rehash of Sandy, for more burgers. It's a scam. And Inturd is absolutely shitting itself since the Ivy days. That's why I've been sitting on 2600K since 2012 by principle. It's all over now. In October of this year I'll be building a new custom main station/system from scratch, on 16 core Zen 2. Depends on your finances and preferences.
If you have money to spend and you're fine with doing it, then buy Zen+ 2600~2700X right now and easily upgrade to Zen 2 later. MicroATC and mini-ITX motherboards usually come out last in the line after the initial release of a new CPU and chipset, so you won't be able to get that for B550 or X570, but there are some X370 and 4xx mobos out there.

>> No.71101564

Is there a major difference between B450 and X370?

>> No.71101602

Well, obviously 3xx series is a gen1 and thus there's less stability due to gen1 Zen being absolutely new, raw, unpolished architecture, so mobos were pretty meh too. 4xx are way more solid, even if not top chipset. 5xx will be even better on features and components, but there's really nothing wrong with getting a 4xx mobo. Technically, you can upgrade to Zen 2 and use it fine even on 3xx mobo, but features will be less and stability/RAM frequency will be lower. And A320, the lowest tier, is not supported at all. Basically, if you're on 3xx, it's best to have a X370 chipset at the very least, while with 4xx both B and X will be fine.

well cpu-z doesn't have a 9700k to test against but i know for a fact from seeing all the benchmarks, a 9700k and 8700k have the same level of multi-threaded performance. and my 9900k is crushing the 8700k in multi. i can't test microcode since my motherboard vendor hasn't released any new bios for my board yet.

though i did see this from intel: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/engineering-new-protections-into-hardware.html
seems like 9th (family 158, stepping 12) is immune to zombieload (MFBDS) as it already has hardware fixes for it. its only fallout (MSBDF) and two others that no one has talked about that 9th doesn't have hardware fixes for. so i guess 9th generation isn't as impacted as other generations.

not really. the argument was a 9900k being a 9700k with ht disabled / heavily nerfed. a 9700k in multi matches a 8700k almost perfectly in multi threaded before the mitigation's. cpu-z still uses the old bench scores before the mitigation's for their reference. so using the 8700k as a base line for the 9700k in multi performance is still a viable alternative. its not perfect as core for core, the 9700k has less l3 cache than the 8700k and 9700k, so single might be slightly worse and multi might be a minor lower in certain cases, but still a good baseline to use to judge a 9700k multi without having one by using the 8700k.
if you're using a ryzen, you have to remember, ryzen suffers more so in heavy latency sensitive scenarios due to its front end bottleneck. why its gaming performance is much more lower than what synthetics and most other benchmarks show it should be. a 2700x 488 score would mean it should tie a 7700k in single thread as cpu-z has both within margin of error in their benchmark score, but the 7700k shits all over the 2700x in real world scenarios in single.

a 1700x for example did not stay at $400 for like any length of time

>> No.71124174

Hell yeah the prices fell, and many people bought the 1700 non X and still got great performance for less money, but even at $500, you could buy an 1800X and thrash intel's HEDT, which is absolutely insane.

Well shit, all apps are ipc benchmarks when you compare a bunch of things running at the same clock speed.

How is Intel even anything still? I know servers don't matter but even on the desktop it's hard to justify buying 14nm++ when new technology is right around the corner from AMD and it uses less power.

Anon, that's two 8168s.

>2990WX is 1700$
It's actually quite cheaper now than the initial MSRP. In some places (Micro Center, some European and Russian stores/nets) you can get 2950 for as low as 700$ and 2990 for ~1200$. And that's not even official price cuts yet.
