Even the old AMD FX CPUs didn't run hot, alot of it was just memes and shilling, Intel had already made 130w i7 s on X58, hell they made 150w quad core penryn based Xeons for servers, but a 125w CPU from AMD is the end of the world.

with the 3700x 12 cores @ ghz "boost", what does boost mean? I'm a brainlet who only ever bought intel, and only overclocked once which I guess I did wrong because my pc got roasted and was never the same even after I undid the overclock.

What is boost? is it retard friendly?

>> No.71084663

Boost is stock Turbo. Temporal automatic OverClock while an app/software is running. Like games and etc. Differs from constant OverClock in that it drops to minimal stock values immediately as app/software is closed and system goes idle.

>> No.71084677

Oh cool thanks anon. Is there any way for nerds to influence how high their boost goes or is traditional overclocking ded?

>> No.71084760

Intel is still not ready to compete at the same power.

>> No.71084795

I personally prefer to have a stable constant OverClock rather than Turbo, simply because in games in particular Turbo might sometimes cause stutters/race conditions on multi-threading, but if you're not well versed in manual OverClocking then stock Turbo will be just fine for you. Also, unlike with manual OverClocking where you're essentially controlling the entire process yourself (and thus can decide which/how many cores to OverClock, which to DownClock or even completely disable if needed, what voltage to apply and etc), Turbo tends to OverClock to max factory-set values only the first several cores while DownClocking the rest, in case with some of the processors. Fortunately enough, this mostly only been applying to Inturd's garbage shit as of late, as Zen shown to be able to do Turbo on ALL cores just fine (to a count of 16 at the very least for sure). As for me personally - I've set my 2600K to constant 4.8GHz back in the 2012 and been running it like that in a 24/7/365 regime ever since. My next new main system build will be a 16 core Zen 2 in October, because I only upgrade in quadruples.

>> No.71084819

ur a good poster anon thank u for the post

>> No.71084898

>Is there any way for nerds to influence how high their boost--
If you OverClock initial (minimal) stock values to begin with, Turbo gets affected too, since Turbo is an automatic setting which you can literally turn "ON/OFF" in motherboard's BIOS (or AMD's official OverClocking software, as of late), but since Turbo heavily relies on BUS clocks, and you can't OverClock BUS high, the increase of Turbo won't be as big as you'd think. I personally don't like to mess with Turbo at all and usually the first thing I prefer to do when I'm building a new system and putting a modern CPU in it - is to completely turn Turbo off. But, hey, that's just me, my personal preferences.
