Usually the top card would get much hotter, but in that anons case (no pun intended), both cards would, plus they are being feed hot CPU air from the rad and little to no other airflow.
Fermi was worse than AMD's Vega is now, in terms of efficiency.

>> No.70388467

This happens because the user charged it too much. Just use it for a while and it should deflate back down.

>> No.70388469

GPU are blowers so they would exhaust their heat as well as help exhaust the heat from the CPU
There is also the PSU fan to help evacuate heat
It's clearly not a system that would run very cool but it would be adequate
If the GPUs were not blowers then there would be issues

its obviously Polaris and MSI doesn't install fuses on NV either - plenty of those died in mining rigs burning the entire board (not as bad as this one tho)

>> No.70388501

Both the fans are obscured, one by the other card and the second one by the bottom of the case. Better SLI motherboards made the PCIe slot gap wider for that exact reason too. There's no way adequate enough airflow in that case, unless there's a side panel with a fan pointing at the GPUs.
Rad/fan blowing in from the front is always worse though than exhausting it. The AIO is literally a dumb decision with such a built.

Do you think the designers of the old blowers didn't think the cards would be stacked together so close? This was a a time where 4 way SLI was a thing and cards had to be stacked close
It's not going to be quite but I think it would be enough to keep thermal throttling away

They did, yet it wasn't the best design choice. Maybe even planned obsolescence, who knows.
There's plenty of backslash about blower cards in SLI and throttling was an actual issue. Even the single slot Quadro blower versions got better results.

>> No.70397244

what the hell causes this to happen?

>> No.70397259

>isn't even dangerous if
The main problem I see with it, after you've cleared Darwin's hurdle of shutting off the mains, is that that entire breaker's worth of outlets and appliances will be completely unprotected in the event of a short, not to mention no RCD. It would be much more preferable to wire it up to before all the breakers, doing so by installing a dedicated socket if you plan on running your house on a generator more than once a year.

>> No.70397363

>that that entire breaker's worth of outlets and appliances will be completely unprotected
That's why you plug into the plug next to the panel. The one on the circuit that usually only drives lighting and that one plug. Generators have 15A breakers themselves anyway.
This is only an emergency thing to do if the alternative is freezing to death, like I almost did in the 2008 ice storm before nig rigging such an arrangement up between a seriously shitty 1,000W camp generator and my oil furnace. Having half the outlets and lights work was a bonus.
Oh, also be sure to shut off any 240V breakers to avoid damaging anything that might not like having only one energized leg. This shit is all obvious if you've got a clue and you're standing there in front of the panel.

Being poor as shit growing up fucking sucked.
