Lenovo have the complete schematics on their support website
Go there, search for it and load them into your pdf viewer, you can either google for the name of the circuit you need to look at and control+f for it in the schematic or you can just browse through the whole thing

They're generally circuit board schematics rather than drawn diagrams but if you're reasonably intelligent they aren't too hard to follow

>> No.70328364

You realize why people like thinkpads right? Because you can buy 3+ year old ones really cheap.

Because corporations buy them in bulk for a cheap price and then ''update'' their laptops in every 3-4 year, flooding the market with not very used, refurbished cheap laptops.

So if you buy a new thinkpad as an individual customer you will pay premium price. As I mentioned above most new thinkpads are bought in bulk on a discount price by corporations.

But I mean yeah If you have money you can buy one. I would love me a maxed out t480 but that was costing 2.5k$ even with ''discount deals''

Yes, absolutely, the charge is not going to last long enough if you're doing any tasks with a standard cell battery. I have a 9 cell and I don't always have to worry about being close enough to an outlet before I sit down to work, I just have to occasionally check it.

Why is there never love for the plain ol' X200 here? ;(

If you are actually going from a CCFL backlight to a LED, you will need the inverter and display cable. If you're feeling lazy, the X201's head will fit perfectly onto a X200, and has a guaranteed LED display.

I've been rocking a 9cell at 99% capacity for the past couple days. With my very light workload and underclocking I get 7-8 hours on it. Not bad at all I'd say. I'd always recommend the 9cell over the 6cell, the extra bit hanging off the back isn't going to kill you.

Nope... you can't trannyboot it or coreboot it with me cleaner, trust me I tried.
I mean I like the x200 do to the ease of flashing it, the chip isn't wson 8, but the x200s has a better battery life, and you can have a 1440x900 panel, trust me I tried to swap the panels on to a x200. There is some edid issue or something.

The processors are just so underpowered on the X200s... It's really a huge compromise for the extra battery life. Give me that screen on the X200 and it'd be lit, though.

X200T is fine, but I've never used one. The touch screen is exclusively pen touch, so I don't really have any reason to get one. I've never heard anyone complain about them so I doubt there's anything severely wrong with its design.

I'd still say go with the X200. Less shit to go wrong, more powerful processors, and super duper easy to service.

So I'm a retard who probably doesn't belong here, but my laptop got stolen and I need another one for college, but I need it to be cheap (sub-$300) and heard from a classmate that a used thinkpad would be good since I still have 3 years of school left and I really don't want have to buy another laptop before I'm done. Literally all this computer will be used for is schoolwork, aka word processing and internet browsing, so what models should I be looking at? Right now, I have a shitty little chromebook I'm borrowing from the library and I hate it.

look at OP post
and if your classmate is around shilling thinkpads, he's probably a repressed tranny who secretly want to fuck you, pay attention.

I have a T60 with ancient BIOS and need to update it, can I do it in Lubuntu 18.10 or do I need to install Windows to update the bios?

>> No.70352426

Just bought mine a few weeks ago. T420. Came with a big battery and 8gb of RAM. I chose t420 over t430 only because of the keyboard and I know I can switch it but I need to keep it a secret from my wife.

>all hail the x220/x230
>finally buy an x220 refurbished: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAANW8EP5921
>last month it stops taking power from the AC adapter. Can hear it chirping as it disconnects over and over
>get replacement dc in module
>now it doesn't react at all, indicator lights don't come on.

I dun got meme'd. Guess I'll go buy a chromebook or something.

but in all earnestness, how do I diagnose whether:
- I need a new DC in module (maybe my replacement was also faulty?)
- the power circuit on my motherboard is fucked
- I fucked something up when I opened it and bricked the thing ( doubtful but always a possibility I guess)

>> No.70353421

if i'm not mistaken to replace the cpu on the t420 you need coreboot.
replacing the cpu is not tricky at all, just remove the battery and the power cord, disassemble the laptop and change it. now flashing coreboot is a bit more delicate, but if you have an rpi you just need to buy a pomona clip and some jumper cables and carefully follow the instruction of one of the hundreds of guides out there.

Don't know what to pick. T420 or T430? Or even T520? All I need is a laptop with 14"-15" screen for study and possible 1080p IPS upgrade + add. RAM. Maybe even something portable because I'll be carrying it everyday. But I want to watch movies in the spare time too, and do work in Word, it needs to be comfy and efficient as daily driver. Fug.
