Imagine your current linux setup, but you can carry it anywhere you want and connect it to any monitor and it will be your full setup! And all samsung phones are encrypted by default + you have finger print readers + biometrics to lock it. Way more secure than your typical desktop setup.

Now would be a good time for Samsung to come out with a laptop shell for their phones. Then again maybe that's where they're going with the foldable OLED displays.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

It's not "unadulterated" Ubuntu, but botnet, I have no doubt. Isn't this the gazillionth time something like this gets attempted? Ubuntu phone and I remember Samsung offering an obscure peripheral a while ago, doing the exact same time.

Nevertheless, good improvement, really hoping for this to take off. Currently LoD is in it's baby stage with warnings like:
>Linux on DeX may slow down or suddenly be turned off in case of lack of memory
But it has a future for light development. I travel occasionally enough to justify purchasing an S9 and a DeX Pad. Saved space and weight in backpack means I can go with a single piece of hand luggage, get through security faster, haul less shit around and make the whole experience more pleasant.

This shit has been conceptualized and tried for over a decade. It always leads to:

1. Low usage, eventually gets abandoned by the devs and forgotten

2. Buggy as fuck. Poor compatibility with just about anything

3. Costly.

With that in mind I hope XDA can start porting this over to every other android phone. This has been TRIED FOR YEARS. The HTC HD 2 was the last phone that really had true Ubuntu on it. After that it's been broken shit and empty promises.

Kill yourself you fucking shill. Go back to masturbate to plastic korean whores and eating dogs.

This is just a dumb VM, YOU SITLL NEED need to create a botnet account for Samsung and Google, you HAVE TO KEEP all the Android malware, you can only use this glorified crap on NEW SAMSUNG DEVICES... gee I wonder why this corporate bullshit is only for those phones, despite Ubuntu being able to run on many other models like nothing.

I dont want to use Chromecast, miralink (?), simplink, what ever you name. Getting sound over is buggy, there's lag in video, can you even cast 4k screen? I dont want to use hotel's wifi when simple cable suffices. Presentations? Yeah lemme first pair this Chromecast to your wifi... Fuck off

Linux on phones stopped being nearly as interesting when they dropped trackballs/trackpads and keyboards from phones. I guess it'd be sort of neat with a Note

Well then read the OP link, because this garbage requires you to both a Google account and a Samsung account and is just a stupid VM.

OP is a shill and this thread is full of samsung marketers trying to make imbeciles buy their new phones.

this could be a response to that eu law forcing google to remove store from default installs, they didnt and they made manufacturers to pay instead. samsung opened this this to make it easier for freetards to create actually free os that they will copy and replace android with. could be this or not, i wish them luck either way

>make it easier for freetards to create actually free os

Ubuntu is not a free OS you fucking idiot. It's full of proprietary blobs and software.

>and replace android with.
This shit runs on top on Android. It doesn't replace anything. You do have to run Google's malware on top of also having to create a Google and Samsung' account.

os is all about apps you retard, this just make it possible to install anything you want and start doing apps or ports of existing. this one runs on top but s11 or s12 could not. just port sailfish, install custom android store and throw android away. this would benefit samsung because they would not have to pay for os like they need to for android

For me, this is probably the far in usability that a phone has to go: low-mid end laptop replacement, with office work, web browsing and low end games(emulators, 2d shit and android ports) in mind, and none of this desktop wannabe shit that samsung is trying to pull.

If they offers a 11 inch dock, with a good trackpad and/or nipple and a decent keyboard like the surface book, they will get my money. And if they invest in different screen sizes, like the popular 13 and maybe some 15-17 with numbpad, jesus, they will get some good sales.

Termux barely runs jack shit under X. UserLAnd runs a lot more shit, but it's still full of issues because it's a hacky fucking mess.

>>68432032
there's surprisingly little you need to do to be able to run plain arm64 (or whatever the shit CPU you use) linux binaries right on your phone
most of the issues come from trying to run X (shit's a fucking mess) or the fact that Android's permission system is a fuckton more restrictive than under "normal" Linux
but because Android quite literally IS Linux, just with a really different userland, you can do it

>>68440193
it's installing an actual desktop distro on a slow shit (well, compared to like any actual computer) phone while going through all kind of redirected false-permissions overhead since these are entirely unmodified binaries

>>68427898
sometimes I need to do real computer shit but I don't have my laptop
but 90% of that can be solved with termux

They don't. RAM is used as if it was HDD space to cache and load your photos more quickly. Smart phones should've stayed at android 2.

Not the other guy, but yeah, aside from the keyboard and triggers, the physical layout of the first gen is nicer.
