Imagine your current linux setup, but you can carry it anywhere you want and connect it to any monitor and it will be your full setup! And all samsung phones are encrypted by default + you have finger print readers + biometrics to lock it. Way more secure than your typical desktop setup.

And bro, think of the possibilities. Imagine getting an external GPU to work with your mobile device!!! :)

Convergence, what I'm waiting to see is something like what razor was showing off, phone that plugs into a laptop, making it run everything off the phone, using the phone as a touch pad (IDK how well that works), I'd really like to see something like that hit the mainstream.
I'm also hoping samsung releases binary drivers so that you can run any distro on your phone.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Phones are crap for everyday computing and nobody is going to fuck around with wine to get office etc. to work on their phone. People who do use tablets to pay the bills are just going to keep using tablets. As much as I love the idea of thin clients like these we'll need an Apple moment for them to actually catch on.

Most DeX docks have a gigabit Ethernet port, though I wonder what your actual speeds would be when trying to access an external drive, download a large file, and simultaneously use your keyboard and mouse all basically being shoved through a single usb-c interface to a fucking mobile soc? I have a hard time believing this will be as revolutionary as people seem to think, but it will definitely be cool.

Isn't this the gazillionth time something like this gets attempted? Ubuntu phone and I remember Samsung offering an obscure peripheral a while ago, doing the exact same time.

Nevertheless, good improvement, really hoping for this to take off. Currently LoD is in it's baby stage with warnings like:
>Linux on DeX may slow down or suddenly be turned off in case of lack of memory
But it has a future for light development. I travel occasionally enough to justify purchasing an S9 and a DeX Pad. Saved space and weight in backpack means I can go with a single piece of hand luggage, get through security faster, haul less shit around and make the whole experience more pleasant.

1. Low usage, eventually gets abandoned by the devs and forgotten

Kek this, but normies eat that shit up.
Whenever my friends get new phones and try to impress me with how cool and fast their new fingerprint reader is of course I pretend to be impressed but I'm really dying a little inside because what they're effectively showing me is "yo bro I gave my biometric data to the google's servers and now anyone can get into my phone when I'm asleep / passed out and the government can get access to all my files without a warrant, how cool is that?"
All those issues aside I'd kind of see the point if fingerprint unlock was faster but I can literally muscle-memory type my pin in faster and more reliably than any fingerprint reader.

If they offers a 11 inch dock, with a good trackpad and/or nipple and a decent keyboard like the surface book, they will get my money. And if they invest in different screen sizes, like the popular 13 and maybe some 15-17 with numbpad, jesus, they will get some good sales.

Termux barely runs jack shit under X. UserLAnd runs a lot more shit, but it's still full of issues because it's a hacky fucking mess.

there's surprisingly little you need to do to be able to run plain arm64 (or whatever the shit CPU you use) linux binaries right on your phone
most of the issues come from trying to run X (shit's a fucking mess) or the fact that Android's permission system is a fuckton more restrictive than under "normal" Linux
but because Android quite literally IS Linux, just with a really different userland, you can do it

it's installing an actual desktop distro on a slow shit (well, compared to like any actual computer) phone while going through all kind of redirected false-permissions overhead since these are entirely unmodified binaries

sometimes I need to do real computer shit but I don't have my laptop
but 90% of that can be solved with termux
