I couldnt give a fuck about lights and shit, the simpler the better

I don't think i've ever used a mechanical board before, maybe when i was a kid on my family's older computers, not sure

What i'm looking for mostly, is something simple, most of the boards i've seen just looking around so far have been covered in dumb logos, crazy lights, and all these special media buttons and scroll wheels and shit. no thanks.
im gonna be using it a lot for work stuff ie CAD and some programming
I'll also be playing the occasional game

>Id put my wrists on the rest not my palms
If you do have one you're better off resting your palms. Proper typing posture recommends you hover your hands over the keyboard as you type while resting your arms on an arm rest. Of course a chair with a good arm rests costs much more then a $10 wrist rest so most people go for the cheaper option. Putting any sort of pressure on your wrists is bad and that angle is too steep.

>How much higher is the quality of the keyboards in that range?
The sad part is that it's not much better. I will say this I had the pleasure of trying some of the quiet reddit switches and nothing comes close to them. They're the best by a considerable margin. But because reddit has a monopoly on them and the demand is high the prices are just insane. The closest you can get to feel wise would be matias quiet clicks like
However the build quality on those keyboards is terrible even when compared to $40 Chinese keyboards so I'd pass.
That cooler master keyboard with browns or reds with o-rings is quiet enough. The reddit switches are even quieter then most rubber domes, but the cost is too much
