>State the budget & CURRENCY for your build
>List your uses; eg Gaming, Video Editing, VM Work

CPU
>R3 2200G - Bare minimum gaming(dGPU optional)
>R5 2400G/i5-8400 - Consider IF on sale
>R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs
>Wait for 9700k - Almost surely best for 1080p gaming
>R7 2700/X - Best high-end gaming/mixed usage on a non-HEDT platform
>Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT

RAM
>8GB - Enough for most gaming use
>16GB - Standard for heavy use
>32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this
>CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal

Graphics cards
>RTX 2000 cards are worse performance per $ than current GPUs. Just a marketing gimmick to rip off idiots
>Avoid cheap MODELS ie MSI Armor (Mk2 is ok), Gigabyte G1/Wf, ASUS dual, and others which have small heatsinks and low quality fans
1080p
>RX 570/580 /w Freesync or 1060 6GB are standard 1080p 60fps+ options
>1050 3Gb or RX560 for lower settings and/or older games
>GTX 1070Ti/Vega 56 if seeking higher FPS /w a high hz monitor
1440p
>Vega 56; 1070Ti/1080 if you already have Gsync
>GTX 1080Ti if seeking higher FPS /w a high hz monitor
4K
>Upscale from 1620-1800p. Maybe 2080Ti, but awful value.
OpenCL work
>Vega 64

Storage
>Backup before using StoreMi
>Consider getting a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & large HDD
>2TB HDDs are barely more $ than 1TB
>M.2 is a form factor, NOT a performance standard
>NVMe are not for gaming; See "More"

Display
>Consider 75hz minimum; 60hz are mostly old models.
>Always consider FreeSync with AMD cards

Bros, I want a system for audio engineering and occasional games. The games I usually spend the most time are heavily modded morrowind (it's heavy on graphics, because not optimized very well) and maybe Football Manager or Soulshit.

Here's a prospective build I'm thinking:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZKyKkd

I never built a machine myself, and I am afraid of assembling it myself and screwing up, because of airflow and assembling the liquid cooling correctly. Because of this, I'm thinking about ordering it at a local shop that seems dedicated to assembling custom machines, they did my old one but that one I had no idea and they basically chose the parts for me (I was 17, 8 years ago). I am in the EU, Portugal, btw.

I also want to include the HDD from my old desktop (fried motherboard) as well as a texas instruments firewire card I have mounted there (to connect my present audio interface). I think I could mount these two by myself. In one year I will be buying a new thunderbolt audio interface, but for now I still need that card.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Is that with the GPU installed while you were fucking around, or without it?

My guess is either the ram is going, the power supply may not be up to running it with the gpu, or maybe the gpu is going bad.

If you had the gpu in while it was starting to work and have another system, try your GPU in the other system and see if these issues pop back up. Also try running it with 1 dimm and see how stable it is. I don't think it's ram because that normally blue screens but worth a shot.

>turn around cpu cooler for better airflow
Also try re-seating your CPU. Probably wiggled the sucker loose if it's a LGA like intel chips.

The 2400G is $150, how come your 2200G is $130?
You would be better off with 2400-2666MHz RAM. 3200MHz on that CPU seems like a waste.
500W is overkill, you don't need more than 250W as of now.

I suppose you are the "GAME+work" guy.
(De)compression on a 2600X is 2Mo/s faster than the 8600K on 7Zip, 3Mo/s than the 8400. Same speed on WinRAR.

My 2200g costs more than its worth because I live in Canada. A 2400g here is ~200$ , 5$ give or take; which makes no real sense, because for 20$ more I can just get an r5 2600, though then I'd have to buy a small gpu too. 3200mhz ram is just because it's actually cheaper than slower speeds, and obviously "faster" in a sense. why pay more for slower ram when I can just buy the cheaper, but also faster kit? Granted it's only 10$ of a difference.

If the RAM is at that price I don't see why not, especially if you ever upgrade.
The 2400g is fairly better on every points. Yes while it make more sense to buy the 2600 for a little more you'll have to add at least a 80U$D for a 1030/550. Or 120 for a 1050/560.

I dunno, I'm quite happy living here. Quite high quality on the public things, strong security net if I fuck up my life so I get the chance to climb back up without going half a million into debt in medical bills etc. and in general, a happy people

I heard one should leave ~10% of SSD space as a sacrifice for the god of computer hardware (not really lulz) but is that still relevant? And what does it mean, e.g. should I preserve that space when creating partitions or just prevent my files from swallowing all available space?

And second q: is it safe to have pagefile on SSD since they are sensitive to re-writes (many say in reality this garbage is gone and even do I rewrite the whole disk all day it'll still be among the least things to die among other hardware)

All in all should I have any extra caution or just use it as a regular hard drive?

It beats it when it's not overclocked.

But considering they tried it with a 8100 and 8350 it's a lot more cost effective.

I've recently bought an EVGA 1070 and I want to try my hand at overclocking. Should I just mess around in MSI Afterburner and run some Unigine/3DMark benchmarks for testing or should I download the EVGA OC software and let it do the work for me?
Don't have much experience with GPU overclocking since I never bother messing around with it, but if it nets a nice perf. boost at the same noise levels than I'm all up for it.

i realised i dont have any demanding games since i've never really owned a pc powerful enough to have them. i'm getting solid 300fps in tf2 though.
planning to buy some games on next steam sale (halloween?). i'll get witcher 3 for sure, also thinking about nier automata. at least i'm enjoying fast ffmpeg encoding (gotta make webms).

>What kind of ram do you have and can you run it in 16-16-16-36?
i have g.skill aegis 3000mhz cl16. apparently someone on overclock.net managed to get it work on 3000cl14, but i really haven't bothered to get into overclocking yet. i had it on 3200cl16 for a while and it booted up fine, but had errors during memtest, so i reverted it back. i PROBABLY can get 3200mhz if i mess around with the settings, but it's something very boring and tedious to do. i could use some sort of a guide about ram overclocking on ryzen platforms.
also i don't know why speccy is reading my cpu's temperature wrong. hwinfo shows 35C and it doesn't go above 60C during prime95 stress testing. my gpu isn't that good tho - gets to 70C in rocket league.

Since money is not an abstract concept to me, I'd rather buy a cheaper (130€) Cl16 3200mhz kit instead. I've heard of people managing to get extremely tight timings and really nice clock speeds with cheaper ram kits (3400mhz) but that requires tinkering and rigorous testing. Do you think that running a kit at deafult speed with CL16 will net good enough performance? I'm not that autistic to start overclocking ram. I've got better use of my time.

Intel's HT is so bad that it actually often makes single thread performance WORSE due to the locking between slow(slow at the speed CPUs work) context switches.
