I am making a viewbot and I will need tons of RAM. Does it matter if it is DDR3 or DDR4? Will there be a significant difference? Planning to make a used 16 core Opteron + 64GB of RAM for cheap, or a Xeon alternative if I can find for cheaper.

I see two options in front of me at basically the same price
>coffee lake i3, cheap ram, rx570
>2400g, expensive ram

the former means a GPU upgrade in 2-3 years and being stuck with 1151.

the latter means dGPU next year, pick whatever makes sense in the below 300 price range (because I'm not willing to pay more for any singular piece of hardware) and pray to god it will last reasonably well into next-gen games. with an option to still upgrade to whatever will be a formerly high-end zen+ cpu.

thoughts?

I mostly need good single thread performance and a good gpu. And silence if possible.

CPU - Intel i5-8600K, 3.60GHz, 9MB, BOX BX80684I58600K
GPU - MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Ti GAMING 8GB //maybe drop to just 1070
Motherboard - MSI Z370-A PRO ATX LGA1151
CPU Cooler - Scythe Mugen 5
RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX, DDR4, 16GB(2x8GB), 3000MHz
PSU - be quiet! Pure Power 10 500W (BN273)
HDD - WD Blue 2TB //dunno honestly but 2TB for now
Case - be quiet! Pure Base 600
I already have SSD

2400g with 3200 ram imo
it's a better cpu and the gpu side runs well enough that you wont be struggling with games and when you do, you'll have money for a gpu with a cpu that wont bottleneck it

if you go with the first one then you'll be upgrading ram, cpu and gpu in a couple years which is a lot more expensive than buying a second hand 1080/70 next year

Anything in here I should outright replace before I bite the bullet and start to buy 'em? I've never really built my own from complete scratch, only ever upgrade hand-me-downs until they were no longer able to be upgraded without it being a waste.

Still not sure if I should pull the trigger on getting a new GPU, and which one:

Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 8GB ($356.99)
ASRock Phantom Gaming X RX 580 8GB ($329.99 w/ $30 rebate)
Gigabyte Windforce GTX 1060 6 GB ($339.99)

Cooling is not as much of an issue: the Twin Turbo III in my closet would probably make up for any deficiencies, though I prefer not to use it if I can. I suppose my choices come down to:

a) Getting an RX 580 or GTX 1060.
b) Getting a cheap or an expensive RX 580, should I choose the former.

For the former, I suppose it's a matter of figuring out which is better optimized for whatever games I may play, which are mostly single-player, open-world or story-driven types with the occasional multiplayer.

For the latter, the dilemma I suppose is whether the card itself is well-made, cooler notwithstanding

>>67620928
I'll vouch for >>67621730. The H60 was probably one of the least satisfactory elements of my build when I started out. It is the only part of my otherwise silent build that makes noise under operation. I've already had to replace it within warranty, after an unexplicable rise in temps and corrosion on the copper plate.

Only reason that you would get it IMO is for a SFF build, and that is conditional on the case in question. If it breaks again, I'm going for an air cooler instead.

I got my H60 because it was on sale, because someone convinced me that the noise wasn't noticeable (an entirely subjective metric, as I have come to learn), and because its price ranging isn't nearly as awkward as in the States. If I could do it all over again, I'd probably go for a be quiet! Dark Rock cooler. Most people seem to recommend the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO as a baseline minimum for decent cooling, though.

So I want to discuss the overstock of Nvidia cards, since I may want to pick one up used on eBay around Black Friday when I want to build a PC.

Is it confirmed that Nvidia only has an overstock of higher tier cards, so anything 1070 or above? Or did they overproduce their entire line? And then price/perf. Is going for the 1080 Ti the best decision? I calculated it at current prices and that seems to be best bang for buck right now. Dunno if I can assume an even price drop across the board as time goes on but it seems reasonable. I kind of want 144hz 1080p so it seems like a good decision to make.

RX560 if you can't get the 1050 3Gb.
1050 3Gb tends to be the best choice below the RX570, though, if you can find it for around half the price of an RX580 4Gb or 1060 6Gb. I haven't seen a 1050Ti or 1050 2Gb sale worth buying for like 2 years.

Why don't you use the review you picked your power consumption chart from? Oh, is it because you're a cherry-picking fanboi who can't stand that the 1600X loses every single game to the 8400 except Ashes and Civ (and the 8400 wins the AI test in Civ, too).

Highly dependent on a couple of things. Are we comparing the 2GB vs 4 GB RX 560 and is it the D variant with 12 CU/896 stream processors or the full version with 16 CU/1024 stream processors? Which 1050 are you looking at, the 2 GB or 3 GB 1050? Yes the low end market is this fucked up.

The tier chart is like this:

3 GB 1050 > 4 GB 16 CU RX 560 > 2 GB 1050 > 2 GB 16 CU RX 560 > 4 GB 14 CU RX 560 (same as 4GB RX 460) > 2 GB 14 CU RX 560 (same as 2GB RX 460)

The 1050 has better performance at its highest tier and lower power consumption but not by much. The RX 560 has Freesync and can be found more easily in my area at least, but they are all the lower cut down cards that can not beat the 1050.

Compare the specs and then make a decision.

Seems like both Asrock RX 560 2 GB/4 GB cards are nerfed. So yeah, 1050 it is if you want the highest FPS and don't care about Freesync.

Both AMD and Nvidia do this on the low end market because margins matter at that point since they sell the most out of all GPUs in this budget segment and any penny pinching that can be done will be done to get more money.

Dunno what the hdd is all about since everyone says its trash, I'll try to figure it out.

Also there seems to be a big argument on whether the 2700x is better or worse than the 8700k, seems like the 8700k is better for some games, while the 2700x is better for some workstation aspects from all I've read.

It's a fine first attempt but:
Case is really outdated. I know that one gets recommended a lot, but I think it's shit. Others anons have said it's shit.
PSU is overpriced. Platinums are often on sale for around $85.
Do you really need an optical drive? And not just a $20-$40 external one?
Just get an ASUS board with built in wifi if you want ASUS and wifi. ASUS has good Wifi. You could also go mATX. That particular ASUS board is pretty shit and you're better off getting the B450M mortar if you want to add in your own wireless.
That GPU is overpriced, but if you really want to spend $40 more because it's blue and slightly higher factory clocks, I guess I can't really blame you since I did the same.
You can get good cooler options for ~$35 like the Cryorig H7 and BeQuiet Pure Rock.

I've never liked midtower cases but something like a Meshify C Mini or Fractal Design Define Nano S both have space for that beefy cooler, big GPU, and enough HDDs or SSDs. If you have enough rubles, you can buy your dad an msi 1050/1050ti gaming x. Those GPUs run very silent during load and are silent during idle. The Ram is fine for ryzen but getting a Micro ATX motherboard would be much more practical and cheap. If your father isn't against a taller case, you could try making a PCPP build or just googling some case builds with some of your components and see how they turn out and what temperatures you would get.

Ok. If you need a CPU which is more powerful than a 2400G, yet cool, then my recommendation would be to get something like a used 750Ti and get a <$40 passive cooler to replace the stock cooler with.
You also have coolers like the Artic Mono which, while not passive, is pretty much inaudible even with a warmer GPU like an RX480.

Keep in mind if you make things too quiet, you may hear components coil whine instead. And Nvidia cards tend to have worse coil wine because their reference PCBs because less built.

>>67628423
Why can't you hit 75hz tho.
How much screen tearing there'll be and how visible it is depends on your eyes and the monitor.
You'll get screen tearing if you're simply at a constant 74hz on a 75hz monitor because eventually the mismatched frequencies of events coincide in a way that there is a tear.

It's like if you have two cogs which have loose tolerances spinning at very slightly different speeds to one another. Eventually they'll crunch and skip.

I don't even think the 8700k is worth buying anymore. There's just too many vulnerabilities, one after another. Researchers say some of them can't be fixed in microcode without disabling HT. Intel, in a flippant manner, says they "aren't fixing" them as if trying to say the vulnerabilities don't matter because they can't fix them. It's a fucking joke.

The 9600k might be good, given that the HT performance and security is shit but their per core performance is okay if you can get 8 of em

Games have been using 8 cores since 2013. Like GTAV, Witcher3, Metro LL, etc.

Be Quiet Shadow Wings, but they're kind of pricey.

Silverstone FHP-141's are silent when run at low rpms, but they're also great at moving air when you engage them at full power.

Mostly gonna be gaming 1080p/144hz, editing/multimedia whatever

All the purchased shit is stuff from the old rig i'll just transfer over

Any tips? Don't really bother with overclocking hence no cpu cooler, no budget either

It uses less power than 580 and no one ever brings power consumption when talking about 580 vs 1060.
