I don't see the problem We all know Ryzen is slower in many games vs Intel. Whether that is due to architerial differences, Intel coding bias, Nvidia hardware/software bias towards Intel (even though they don't like each other it might just be how things are due to AMD's way of working), Windows (That scheduler) of just plain old clockspeeds is up in the air. But simply put. Until 7nm next year for desktop CPU's Intel wins. But only barely with it's top 6 core desktop processor...for more money. The i8400 wins on simplicity of setup but the 2600 beats it (with some tweaking) and also beats it on value for money.

The results seem pretty accurate and he isn't exactly anything new most didn't know either: AMD gives you more value for your money and better all-core performance while Intel has better single-thread performance which makes most of existing games run games faster.

You can hardly say he's shilling Intel when you look at pic related screengrab from the video. It clearly shows AMD winning in everything but Cinebench single-thread. I run GNU/Linux and this is why I went with an AMD processor. If I was a worthless NEET who played computer games all day then I'd obviously be better off using an Intel CPU.

>>67471878
>did he mention Intel's 24+ and counting hardware security vulnerabilities?
No, and he didn't say if he used the latest Intel microcode and patches which slows everything down by 10-20%.

>>67471987

>>67472003
Realistically they are running GNU/Linux and aren't playing games. Be real. Most people don't build their own PC. Most of the people who play videogames all day lack both the energy and know-how so they either buy a pre-built system or pay someone else to build it for them.

>Are they fixing the flaws
Yes, they are fixing them and the price is loss of 10-20% performance. I don't know how the Windows situation is, the last serious exploit found was made public just a few weeks ago (they keep piling up). The latest migrations in Intel's new microcode + the latest Linux kernel has a really big impact on a lot of normal tasks like image editing etc. The previous migrations mostly cased loss of performance in less common things that do heavy IO (think database servers etc).

>>67472613

Keep on mind that there's not just one or two problems that have come to light, there's more than a dozen Intel-affecting security problems that have come to light. Using combinations is possible and there's some proof of concept code that runs in web browsers (meaning you just have to visit the wrong website).

>>67472564
>It’s a problem with x86
No, it's actually not a problem with x86 (or x86-64), just Intel's later implementations. That's why really old CPUs don't have these problems and almost all of them only affect Intel CPUs.

It's quite frankly a really bad program to use and you can't expect it to behave better than early beta software.

At first blush it seems mature and it does have pretty much all the features you'd expect from a video editor. In theory. But.. it does have a tendency to just crash if you try to use a too high percentage of those features. It's like being handed a toolbox with a lot of tools in it but half are rigged to explosives so you're screwed if you pick up anything but the basic hammer or screwdriver.

I'm honestly a bit annoyed when I read kdenlive changelogs and announcements, it's like yeah we added this and that feature - how about making it not randomly crash every five minutes?

>buy B350 AM4 motherboard
>find out it doesn't work with the boards BIOS
>"but you can use a 1xxx-generation CPU to upgrade", yeah like everyone's got a bunch of those lying around
>"but you can ask AMD for a upgrade-kit" yeah wait 2 weeks for that to arrive and deal with that hassle
pok dat, they should have mandated that all motherboard partners have USB-loadable BIOS (meaning you can upgrade it even if the installed BIOS is too old for the CPU in the socket).

Also, it's meaningless for another reason: I've never - ever - upgraded CPU between RAM standards anyway so I've always bought the whole CPU+Motherboard+RAM bundle. 4 year socket support means jack shit to me since I usually have the same system 5+ years.

>ryzen 3 1200 was a great option
Looked at CPU prices the other day and, as usual, made a small spreadsheet. The Ryzen 3 1200 is actually the best value CPU you can get right now (depending on prices, obviously). Locally most stores sell the retail box version but there's also two webshops who sell it listed as "bulk with cooler". If you take the multi-core performance number from cpubenchmark and divide by price you'll (locally) get 7.94. The same figure for the i5-8500 works out to 5.76 and 6.77 for the Ryzen 2600. The R2400G is only 5.44.

I know it's not a common way to look at it but it's actually what I look when considering which CPU to buy: performance per currency unit paid. As an example, the Ryzen 2600X is faster than the Ryzen 2600 but the 2600 scores 6.77 and the 2600X scores 5.9 - almost as bad value as most of Intels offerings - which means you get less value for your money.

try streaming while gaming with these CPUs and you're screwed. Do anything but play games and you're in for a bad experience.

In all seriousness, not sure those cheap CPUs are worth it for anyone today. 16 or just 8 GB of RAM is expensive to what it was. GPUs are too. Motherboards.. not that expensive relatively speaking but they ain't free either. My point is really that a CPU is a quite important part of a PC build and $100-200 on a decent one really isn't that much compared to the cost of everything else.

you can, eh? So if you have an old BIOS on a B350 or X370 motherboard which doesn't support your CPU and it doesn't post and you can't get into tbe BIOS then your story is that you can load the BIOS from USB and update it?

Do tell us all about how you've done this and what board you used, I am eager to hear all about this.

If you do have a working BIOS and you can get into it then yes, you absolutely can update it from an USB stick. That's not very relevant when the board doesn't post.

Why do you think AMD is offering an "upgrade-kit" where you can borrow a weak A8 APU and use that to upgrade your BIOS if you buy a 2000-series APU or CPU? Just for fun since it's, according to you, not required?

Interestingly most of the new B450 and X470 MSI AM4 boards do have a feature that lets you boot into a BIOS off a USB. Why do you think MSI decided to add this to their new boards?
