Get a parametric equalizer that works systemwide. Windows users can pick up Equalizer APO for a simple solution.
Perform a sine sweep, such as by Sinegen, and look for annoying peaks and dips. Fill them in using peaking filters. Adjust the Q/bandwidth to affect the spread of the filter, the magnitude, and center frequency to make targeted corrections.
Then, listen to your music and see if you like the result. Try listening to multiple tracks. Make adjustments as needed, rinse and repeat until you like the overall result.
Graphs can help give you a rough estimate, but they don't have your ear geometry, nor your headphone unit, or
your taste.

I bought both the m565 and m1060 to try out and both were trash. m565 was just boring in general I barely used the thing. The m1060 I put many hours in and tried my best to enjoy it. However there was a problem with mine(and someone else who bought a pair a week later) where if a song hit a certain note(not 5k, this is something else) it would sound very sharp and shrill, like a shriek.
Others don't have this problem which makes me think it's a QC thing, you may get a pair with only 5k ringing, or you may get a pair with 5k ringing that also can't handle high pitched female vocals.
Pic related is another qc issue

downsides of dynamics:
- non-linear stock FR that requires significant dampening
- ringing / sloppy decay
- heavy due to magnets

downsides of estats:
- special amp required
- resonates when enclosed/dampened
- limited excursion requiring larger diaphragm size
- fragile diaphragm
- requires strong seal

planars require an amp, have wonky tuning, heavy magnets, typically have ringing problems especially when enclosed but even when in an open back, poor excursion compared to dynamics, have fragile diaphragms, requires a strong seal

Yay or nay? The only concerns I have are, one - some people saying that d10 is better, and two - I'm still unsure if a DAC+AMP in one device woudn't be better. Thoughts?

why though?

Also, I've head that controlling the volume via knob is way better than doing it digitally, via OS. If that's the case, is there any way to avoid any digital volume adjustments? I mean, when I'm listening to the music, I can set it up to 100% everywhere. But I usually do some other tasks, such as talking with people. It's obvious that music can't be at 100% if I want to hear them. Having the voice chat or something else at 100% and music at ~25% seems like an unavoidable situation, and a very common one as well. Can it be done better?

File: 850 KB, 1280x720, 1513648309837.png [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google] [report]

>why though?
Value a shit when compared to a dedicated amp. And having a great amp makes a huge difference, whereas a DAC will only make a difference if the DAC you'd otherwise use (such as onboard audio's) is implemented badly to the point of being hearable, something unlikely these days.
>volume via knob
Headphone amps tend to have a volume knob.
>(computer audio, software side) can it be done better?
I'm likely not the best person to ask about the software side, consumer oriented. I do use an overcomplicated architecture with linux-rt, the jack audio connection kit and alsa loopback into jack as fallback for non-jack applications.

my previous headphone tube amps were an OTL, and a push-pull. In comparison the s.e.x has an immediacy that’s really exciting and more engaging. It’s a similar presentation to my we6-se but has a tighter grip on lows.

Favorite combo has been with he-500. I love the hd650/Crack combo, the hd650/s.e.x is a more transparent less warm sound.

Certainly, but HD600 is almost a straight upgrade from HD598. Both are decent, both are neutral, so the sound signature shouldn't be that different. Probably. I may be wrong.
