They probably can't. Don't know how the new motherboards will perform and don't know about their new CPU either but current AMD motherboards and CPUs have a hard time running 3000 MHz with most kits. Some what related, they don't tell us what timings are used so it's hard to say how much the RAM they used matters for the performance numbers (2400 can be faster than 3000).

Well, they can. 99.9% of people who buy their products aren't going to overclock - even if they buy the K parts. But if you prefer random bluescreens over a stable system then you can get more out of overclocking Intel chips.

To be fair, all the benchmarks are run at 4k high settings, at which case you aren't as much CPU bound, but rather GPU bound. We do see the 2700x deliver a 10% improvement over the 1700x consistently, though. And we have to take into account that, if you've bought a 2700x for gaming, you're not going to be playing at 720p low settings. So are you going to get your moneys worth at high end gaming with a 2700x? Definitelly. While also getting a much better workstation than the equivalent Intel offerings. I'd expect the Threadripper lineup to be even better, not sure about its gaming performance, though.

AMD Athlon 5350 is a great little chip. I've got two of those which I do not (ab)use anymore. Nice low-power part which runs just fine with a fanless (I used one from Arctic) CPU heatsink. There's two real drawbacks, just two SATA slots and 3 PCI-e slots on motherboards for it (all MicroATX). I used two two-port SATA controller cards (and a network card) when I used one as a home gateway/server. I used the other one as a HTPC. The main reasons I retired it is that the APU does not do x265 hardware decoding so it can't 4k, not unless you install a GPU. But even with a GPU it can't high-resolution videos properly from browsers (did mange to make it do mpv).

Anyways, if you want the AMD Athlon 5350 complete with a motherboard then do feel free to go to Sweden and pick one up, I've got two just sitting there in the basement. It was a really nice chips when it was released in 2014 but they were low-power weak chips back then and they are weak today. Still, got to say, the awesomeness of a computer with a fanless PSU, SSD, no GPU and fanless CPU (totally quiet) was very nice.

GTA V is probably the game that favors Intel+NVidia the most. It's not exactly representative of a CPUs gaming performance. But if you're like my NEET brother who lives in my poor old mothers basement and you play GTA V all day every day then a computer with a Intel CPU and a NVidia GPU is the obvious choice IF you somehow managed to get some kind of display capable of doing more than 30Hz. That's usually not the case, my NEET brother uses some old 30Hz 1080p television. Not that it matters, he can't afford a computer anyway.

Uwaa that's pretty fuckin' baller.

Now I don't care about LN2 world record clocks on Ryzen because it's basically the same design on basically the same process, so results should be marginally the same WRT 12LPs improvements over 14LPP. Someone pushed an 1800x to 5.8Ghz at 1.92V, and we see a 2700x hitting 5.88 at 1.76, I'd call that a good first result with some headroom.
With that said, the extreme-circumstance 2200G memory clock shows us the limit of Zen's IMC on this semi-updated uArch. It seems AMD did quite a bit of work improving and fine tuning the IMC, and subsequently(necessarily) the interconnect system. IIRC similar setups on 1xxx series Zen topped out at about 4Ghz RAM speed.

Maybe in a month or two's time after BIOS updates and tinkering the more extreme guys can show us what Ryzen1.5 can do at 4.3Ghz using low latency 3866 or higher. I'm really interested in those CCX-to-CCX latencies, and if the L3$ was tweaked more for response to the CCX or latency over the MCM network.

But what about bottle necking? I guess the 1080ti only has 13% against the 1070ti's 10%.
I've been playing VR with my 770, it's a miracle it's even managing. Maybe a 1070ti would still be enough.

>> No.65543008

>But what about bottle necking?
Depends what games you're playing, 4770K is still good but not ideal. Pretty easy to fire up MSI Afterburner and set up a log to see what your per-core CPU usage is during VR gaming, and if it's causing you to drop from 90FPS or not.

>I guess the 1080ti only has 13% against the 1070ti's 10%.
I don't know what you're talking about.

Either way, Nvidia will be launching new shit in a month or two, if your 770 is doing okay for now probably best to make it last a little longer.

on ipc amd has a slight advantage
on power amd has an advantage
on $ per performance they have an advantage

what intel has to counter is a clock speed that makes up for less ipc, and that is going away in less then a year anyway if not already gone.

>> No.65544855

Nah, just overclock it and throw in a 1080ti, you'll be fine.

>> No.65544872

ryzens speed is tied to ram mhz, not absolute speed, the faster the ram speed the faster ryzen is, timeings mean nothing as amd didn't clock high enough for ram to bottleneck yet.

>> No.65544882

yea, some people are lucky and they push 3200 without issue, some people get 3600

I got 3000~ or what ever amd clocks it down to with a 3200 kit, not worth the time to find out why its doing it, everything is fast enough to not give me issues.

>> No.65544950

the infinity fabric is tied to ram speed, or more specifically in consumer 1:2 ram speed, its the reason there is a massive fucking difference between 2400 and 3200, where as if you had intel the difference would be coming from the total ram throughput.

basically, the first zen cpus were not pushing shit fast enough to be ram bottleneck, where as intel cpus can quite easily get to a ram bottleneck where you now need better timesings to alleviate shit.

>> No.65545110

>the infinity fabric is tied to ram speed, or more specifically in consumer 1:2 ram speed

This is correct.

>basically, the first zen cpus were not pushing shit fast enough to be ram bottleneck

This is wrong. The need for ram bandwidth (let alone touching latency) is workload dependant. Intel gets hit the same way if a task devours bandwidth like americans inhale burgers - there is nothing special about zen (or any of intel's architectures) in this regard.

has been a slogan of AMD shills here for a year now. So I really don't get you trying to turn this around somehow.

Games performance matters to people who play games and if AMD finally got better performance there, great, post more proof and hopefully multiple sources agree on this.

>> No.65545962

true but only half true.

intel will push things like lets say games to the point that overclocking ram yields benefits, something that hasn't been true in years now, but amd doesn't hit the same speeds for this, and it benefits more from just faster ram (mhz) than absolute ram speed (mhz+cl)

sure a load that is 100% or largely ram bottlenecked is going to bottleneck everything, but thats true on both amd and intel, the difference is in where the bottleneck is when ram isn't normally the key factor,

on amds side, its just mhz
in intels side, its mhz+cl

>> No.65546029

>> No.65546480

Actually, Mindblank made a couple videos about it, some months back.

It seems like 3200mhz cl14 is best for Ryzen, but higher mhz with tighter timings do produce even better results. Just unsure whether its worth the $$ and effort
