Yes, however Wayland is shit. Don't use it (yet). It might be usable in a couple years.

It's a fault of both. Xfce didn't have to go with GTK.
>>Thunar is the only file manager that works on XFCE
If you're going to be mixing and matching heavily integrated applications then you might as well use Openbox at this point. You can't even remove Thunar without removing the entire DE.
>>I'm too fucking retarded to fix screen tearing
Yea, you can fix it if you use third-party applications like Compton or Nvidia's driver settings. Not natively. This is your "fully-featured" DE.

What do you mean by "thunar doesn't remember icon views"? I just tested this and it seems to work fine.
Catfish integrates fine with thunar for searching. I didn't even know it's an external program until now.
Xfwm already removed tearing in v4.13. The point is to have a light OS, and vsync wastes power so it shouldn't be on by default. Even (((windows))) has tearing unless you enable Aero. But it would definitely need an interface for enabling the tearfree option for intel and AMD.
Mugshot doesn't give errors on my machines. Perhaps this is the fault of your distro? Works fine on ZorinOS.

But I agree with
>Thunar does not shorten filenames leading to very inconsistent column widths
And also
>desktop thumbnails sometimes completely disappear and need a reboot to refresh
>suspending the PC will completely disable some background software until you launch it manually

It does not remember individual folder view settings. If you set it to Icon view in the Pictures folder then every other folder is also gonna use the Icon view. If you set it to List view in the Documents folder then every other folder is also gonna use the List view.
>Catfish integrates fine with thunar for searching. I didn't even know it's an external program until now.
If it doesn't even have its own search bar but relies on an external application popup then I don't consider it finely integrated.
>Xfwm already removed tearing in v4.13.
I'll give you this, I have not used xfwm 4.13, but its screentearing is still a common complaint among new users today.
>Perhaps this is the fault of your distro? Works fine on ZorinOS.

I hate to piss on your parade but KDE is too bloated and here's why:

I start my computer and lightdm shows up and I type in my password and volla my XFCE4 desktop is right there, ready to be (ab)used.

I select KDE session in lightdm and type in my password and now I'm waiting for it to load while I am watching a splash screen and a cop of coffee later I've got a desktop ready to be used.

This is with a Ryzen 1600X running the OS off a SSD.

>>64739253
Too bad this is true, GTK has become a GNOME only toolkit and they are ruining it with no regard to anything else using it. I wouldn't be shocked if the GNOME developers intentionally broke parts of GTK to screw XFCE over at this point.

Found the problem, it was the wallpaper slideshow, i had it set to 1 minute. Disabled it and it fixed. I like the slideshow though so I'm testing with 3 minutes.
