>R3 1200 - Budget builds (best with OC + fast RAM)
>R5 1600 - Great gaming or multithreaded use CPUs
>R7 / Threadripper - Heavy Multi-Tasking / VM Work / Mixed use

>Current CPUs benefit from high speed RAM; 3000-3200 MHz is ideal

Almost every system is affected by Spectre: Desktops, Laptops, Cloud Servers, as well as Smartphones. More specifically, all modern processors capable of keeping many instructions in flight are potentially vulnerable. In particular, we have verified Spectre on Intel, AMD, and ARM processors.

That's only the K SKU, and if you want to OC you'd get the i5 8600K, which is still cheaper and obviously way better than the i7 7700K. Notice in that benchmark the i7 is tapped out while the new i5 isn't (would be even faster if there were a faster graphics card or lower settings)

Total newfag in PC building.
I'm trying to get rid of my laptop I use as desktop hooked up to the monitor with external mouse and keyboard.
Budget would be around 500/550€, and I'll use it for various purposes, such as CAD software, slicing software (Simplify 3D with it's awfully optimized Gcode rendering) and some light gaming (TF2, Fortnite, and something else down the line).
My idea was to buy a Dell Optiplex 7010 and sticking in a GTX 1060. Would this be sufficient or it's better to build it from scratch? If the latter, can you please be kind enough to spoon-feed me, since this would be my first experience?

>random freezes, usually after a brief stutter/stall
>computer does NOT shut down/BSOD
>sound will continue if an audio track is playing
>if a video is playing (youtube), sound will stop, so the video itself must be stopping, not just a graphical freeze
>key strokes still seem to work, caps lock light will go on and off if pressed
>first freeze can happen any time within several hours of launch, if it freezes and I reboot the next freezes seem to happen sooner
>first freeze tends to happen sooner under a heavy load (playing vidya)
>windows memory diagnostic test reveals no problems on standard. On extended, it freezes at 21% (all day, not the few hours that's apparently normal) and can't be exited out of after some time waiting, needs to be rebooted
>on boot, sometimes tower would beep 3 times and then shut down and restart
>this process would sometimes repeat four times, then beep once and shut down and restart (3 beeps = basic 64kb memory error, 1 beep = memory error)
>Once and only once, it beeped five times and shut down on boot (CPU error)
>Moving the RAM sticks around/using only one at a time did not solve the problem

I can't seem to diagnose this with certainty, but I'm 90 something percent sure the RAM is faulty. But, it was my first build and for all I know I did something wrong. Could even be CPU or mobo or video card or something. Does anyone have any advice?

You can cut a lot of fat off that.

Downgrading to a B350 mobo like the Asrock AB350 and using the stock cooler is the first changes I would make. You should still get a moderate 3.7 - 3.9 overclock depending on your luck. X370 adds SLI support right? No use if you don't plan to do that. I think there's more USB ports too, but B350 is really the best bang for the bucks.

You can drop the HDD for now and add it on another paycheck, maybe even settle for a 1tb and just add them as you need them (unless you really have a lot of data, they maybe keep the 3tb hdd and downgrade to a 250 ssd)

Depends on where you are gonna store your games as well desu

The whole 570 debacle has turned me off from AMD desu, I know Nvidia does some bullshit too and I don't feel like overpaying 30 bucks for a 1050 TI that doesn't even compare to a 570.

The used market is also bad value, together with the current RAM prices, seems like a really bad time to build a PC.

Sounds like your gpu desu, if you were booting with display from ur mobo while the graphics card was installed and ur device manager wasn't detecting it

>> No.64158189

For 7 months of last year, AMD had no offering in the budget market (460 was a joke, 560 is not even as good as the 1050)

I know they don't care who buys their cards as long as they get sold but it was frustrating as hell seeing all these reviewers talk about the 570 being the best value and it was never really available for a decent price outside like a month

I could push that aside though, they didnt know about the mining boom and it's hard to react that fast

Then they pull that shit with the 560/560D/460 rebrand, and it seems like they just want to fuck over consumers for every last dollar

The problem is Nvidia is just as bad
