If you want help:
>Assemble your parts list
>State the budget for your build (and country if not the USA)
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
How to assemble a PC, select components & more (kind of outdated)

No i5 unless discounted
>G4560/G4600 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R5 1400 - Cheapest quad core you can get (Ryzen 3 soon)
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>i7 7700k - Only for 144hz
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming

Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - [email protected]~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - [email protected] maxed, [email protected] at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 - [email protected] /[email protected] at high
>GTX 1080 - [email protected] / [email protected] maxed, [email protected] in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - [email protected] and [email protected] maxed/high in many games

>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM

Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
The Ryzen lineup comes with surprisingly good stock coolers. consider using them over any <$30 cooler.

Cooling and noise. Mini is simply so the card can fit inside itx or low profile cases. To do so they cut down the size of the cooler and usually only have a single cooling fan as opposed to 2. 1 fan will have to spin at say 3k rpm to do the same cooling that 2 fans would do at 1500 rpm.

However the 1050ti is a cooler running card, so I'd the price is low enough, get the mini. Won't effect much really.

Your CPU seems to be supported from F4 BIOS onwards, while the earliest listed is F2 (http://www.gigabyte.us/Ajax/SupportFunction/Getcpulist?Type=Product&Value=5490). It should be supported though, since you have managed to get it to boot up in the past. Maybe the CPU is just broken, since you've tried replacing the other components? What about the PSU?

Right now I'm paralyzed with indecision: Switch to mATX or continue with mini-ITX?

mini-ITX: i7-7700k and DanCase A4-SFX (v1 in black) purchased a while back, but since I live in a goddamn desert I'm wondering how temps will hold when I cram a 1080Ti in there. Planned this build before my foray into wanting a 10GigE network, so it won't be able to connect with that unless I rip out the video card or do horrible things to the thunderbolt connector.

mATX: No temp worries, and can be brought into the 10Gig-E network I have planned out via PCI-E card (SFP+ DA, statically addressed). This does leave the very nice (and pricey) A4-SFX case in the cold though.

Wiring for 10Gig-E mostly for a virtualization box and NAS/SAN hybrid box - because fuck waiting for transfer times over 100/1000BASE-T.

Can someone tell me in short if there's any problem buying a good gold PSU, good SSD, good case, good motherboard, and then a garbage GPU and CPU?

I don't have the money to price up to a $1000+ computer currently, and thus I'd have to price down to everything being poor-average quality if I bought it balanced.
But I will have the money in 2-3months or so, and will be able to upgrade, maybe even after these disgusting miners stop buying GPUs and things go on sale a little for holidays(?).

Would it be inadvisible to do so, essentially buying everything good but the CPU and GPU, then tossing that $100-200 in the bin and getting good parts?

Even the shit $60 pentuim and $100 1050 would be 2x better than my previous computer, and the GPU being literally 10x, so I won't be suffering on it.

Aren't good PSU's and a decent case something that lasts years if not a decade? So I'd figure I shouldn't downgrade it...and waiting, that seems equally a horrid, as I'd really only have enough for a mid-range CPU and not a good GPU, so wouldn't the CPU mean fuck-all?

Very bad, switch to R5 1500x: performs better in anything CPU intensive, more futureproof thanks to the extra threads, can be overclocked, b350 mobo (overclockable) cost around the same as b250(non overclockable), and the platform will last 2 - 3 years whereas LGA 1151 is already dead since 6 months or will be in 2

What old games? Do you need to play them at over 500 FPS? What the actual fuck are you doing, nigger?

>> No.61409117

Ryzen has more than enough single threaded performance for old games, unless you care about running them at 400fps instead of 350fps. If you're interested in emulation, it's also far better for RPCS3 (due to the fact that it uses more than four cores if available) and will run any other emulator full speed.

It won't be BETTER, but it won't be noticably worse. I had a 1700 at 4GHz close to launch (ended up returning it due to a faulty motherboard and stumbled into this cheap 2600K setup instead for now), and it was absolutely fine for Cemu, which is the most single thread-demanding emulator out there right now. It's more than enough for Dolphin (hell, that runs full speed on an overclocked Phenom II these days) and is actually better for RPCS3 (as a HEDT Intel chip would be, since it's heavily multi-threaded and uses as many cores as it can get).

NP, I recommend Prime95 torture tests for stability. It can expose problems that other workloads may not, basically a worst case scenario for a CPU in terms of power demand.

You can use the built-in "Small FFT" test or I like to also do a custom one with in-place 1344 size FFTs. Both of these will push the CPU and motherboard VRMs quite hard and if any of the workers fail or your system hangs/reboots then you either need more power or less frequency on the core.

Not great but that's really the worst case scenario, it's still above 60fps and you can likely get higher by overclocking. Not even the 7700K can hit above 120Hz at even 1080p. Older games won't be as demanding, unless you're playing some horrible Slav mess like Boiling Point: Road to Hell which maxes out even a 7700K.

I am not very computer literate, but recently I read up on quite a bit about PC parts so I could build my own PC since my old one is struggling with any games beyond LoL these days.

So I was originally gonna get a Ryzen 1600 build because I heard it performed not too much worse than the i5-7600K in gaming while allowing you to do more other tasks on the PC as well faster. However there was a sale for a i5-7600K and a LG1151 motherboard that saved me a decent buck so I decided on an impulse to order that instead. The build that I've ordered is an i5-7600K, GTX 1070, 512GB Samsung SSD M2, Corsair Hydro Series H60 water cooler, 16GB of 3000Mhz RAM, a 650W PSU (Bronze rated) and the ASUS Prime Z270-P.

While I've ordered it, the order has not been dealt with yet by the company so I still have some time to cancel if I wish, and I kind of got cold feet because I read about i5s being a poor choice over a R5 1600 or 1600X. It would cost me some 50 bucks extra to cancel and go with a Ryzen 1600X with a ASUS Prime B350-Plus motherboard instead. I got the money to do it no problem, but my question is, is it worth it? Another question. Is it possible to take parts from an old PC and re-use them for a new one? Like say a HDD or SSD. Here's a screenshot of my current specs

There's always another coin to mine. Everyone will now "diversitise their wallet" by mining a bunch of other coins until the next BIG THING happens and they'll ride that to glory and riches

The GPU market isn't the one that's crashing, the bitcoin-knockoff market is.

GPUs are selling out any time one is ""on sale"" because people still want them for reasonable prices, but as time passes, we'll see smaller and smaller portions of the marketshare going towards mining.

It's half my internship payment. That being said I got 700BRL in the bank from an old laptop I just sold. So yeah I could go for the gtx970 without any hassle or save up and get the 1060 6gb, which is priced around ~1100.

I'm not him but answering your question.
BRL 937 is the country's minimum wage for 220h hours monthly.
So 250 would be like 1/4 of a minimum wage, and 60% of the BR population live on minimum wage, so there is your scale.

Buy used 1060 on eBay.

Does this mean they'll stop going out of stock instantly when someone tries to sell them at MSRP? Or is this going to take a few weeks before miners give up?

>> No.61412502

thanks for that. I was also interested in his specific scale.
I wonder how much it'd cost to buy a woman for a month.
Ouch. Hmmm well I'd personally say save up and get that 1060 6GB; if nothing else you're setting yourself up for less costs in the future.

Don't get your hopes up, most miners that aren't complete knobs know that this market is volatile and will ride it out. In fact a lot of them will buy cards from the panic sellers since many of them will sell in bulk lots and no normal person wants 6 GPUs at a time.

>> No.61412564

>These developments will decrease demand for new GPUs from miners
So it's going to get even worse?

How does this look?

>Can I have some powersupply with my powersupply?
Thank you!
Seriously, that PSU is way too much. You don't need a $200 one, or a 1000W one unless you're running 3 high end GPUs

You need a AM4 bracket for your H7.
You know that right?

Just replace the Pentium with a better CPU, but yes of course you can use old parts like SSD or PSU or sometimes even RAM
