'And the night bore down on us with a kilometre-thick later of expectations, our skulls cracked and collapsed and darkness poured inside and filled our hull compartment, leaving alive only a drop of energy somewhere in our very core'

I like this passage, but 'hull compartment' is a weird term to use.

This is for dwarf fortress by the way
the shell script you're supposeed to use to start it has a line which goes ./libs/Dwarf_Fortress, to excecute that file in that directory. It has some other commands before that, so It's not a pointless script. Of course I tried doing it manually in the libs dir, and that didn't work either, becuase doing ./Dwarf_Fortress does not work and returns that there is no such file.
However, doing sh Dwarf_Fortress tells me there's a syntax error and somethign about an open parenthesis. I can't actually use a text editor on the file though.

Just start trying them out until you find one that you like. Maybe start with xfce/kde/lxde(I haven't used these for a while so I don't even know much about them). For ricing it's probably better if you only use a window manager (i3/awesome/openbox etc), though.

TL;DR just pick one and try ricing it. if you don't like the one you picked, choose another and try again

I don't know if I did anything stupid when editing my i3 config file, but my workspaces are all distributed on one 'tab', so switching workspaces just changes the title displayed on each tab. Is there anything I can change in the config file to fix this?

Windows 10 is more annoying than 8 in terms of ricing. If I were you, I'd at least wait a bit until more visual styles are released, and until someone figures out a way to make Firefox use your visual style (Which, guess what, it doesn't anymore on 10 since FF 40.0).
