Any good auto chrono under 1.5k with seconds subdial and between 38-40mm?

>> No.50671994

Fortis makes one- 38mm 630.10.12 M "Official Cosmonauts" , you can get it on the grey market for around $1500. There's also the Momentum Men's 1M-CD90S2 for around the same price.

If you bump up your case size to 42mm, you get a bunch more options. As long as the lug-to-lug length isn't excessive, you'll be alright.

My eBay purchase arrived today, a Seiko 7A28-7040. The 7A28 is legitimately of horological significance as it was the first analogue quartz chronograph ever made. This one isn't in too bad condition, though the hour indices are fairly grimy, so cleaning them should be fun. The movement is fairly interesting as it's decorated with 15 jewels and made to be repaired rather than replaced. The chrono is neat, once started the pusher at 10 can be pushed for a split time, the hands will stop but the chronograph is still running and when the pusher is pushed again the hands will catch up to the correct timing. The bracelet is nice too, it's folded crap but I love how it looks.

So this arrived today. A product of the Bagelmeme a few months back; I actually forgot that I ordered it. Seems to be keeping time OK, ie better than +60 minutes per day. The seconds hand makes the standard "Miyota jumping" look like child's play.

I'm thinking about getting a Milgauss, should I?
Specifically the 116400GV, pic related.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the Milgauss. I much prefer the Explorer 1. The Millgauss is a great watch though so if you love it and can easily afford it then go for it.

>> No.50685368

The Explorer definitely is the more classic-looking choice, but I've really fallen in love with the Milgauss recently.

The old numerals looked much better, changing them on such an iconic watch was madness. Though I quite like the Oyster Perpetual that proceeded the Explorer, no numerals and first watch to the top of Everest.

What's the appeal of Rolex?

>> No.50685603

Their designs and quality?

>> No.50685680

Incredibly well made watches all around. They manufacture everything in-house from the materials to the movements. Their movements are extremely accurate, very reliable and easy to service and the materials are high quality, too. In terms of looks I like some of the more subtle and classic designs like the Oyster Perpetual. It's a watch to last you a lifetime and something that holds its value well.

>> No.50685798

The fact that they're basically the only brand (Patek too, maybe) that keeps its value.

>> No.50685839

Being hipster is buying fashion quartz shit tbh.

>> No.50685945

You are literally stupid. Firstly, saying that I expect X level of quality for $2k l implies nothing about whether I think $2k is a lot of money for a watch.

Secondly, Rolex is a bad example because they offer nothing in terms of movement or exterior quality or fit and finish that you could not get from Grand Seiko mechanicals, and without Rolex's brand image issues.

At least with a quartz chrono the running second hand is on a subial so it isn't as obvious.

>> No.50686025

Trying to keep this short:

1) Typical quartz movements are so cheap to produce that they seriously incentivize cheapening the rest of the watch to match, very quickly leading to massively overpriced dogshit.

2) While eco-drives aren't inherently utter trash, Citizen very clearly does not put any effort into the designs for their eco-drives models and they often have aspects that are off-putting to people familiar with the design language of quality watches.

3) We had an eco-drive shilling troll on these threads for a while who succeeded in turning the consensus opinion to utterly despising them.

Saw The Martian yesterday, what was with Matt Damon wearing this dogshit? This is like the antithesis of a proper space watch, no fucking visibility, no chrono. He presses one of those stupid fucking bolts on the top in the movie and it beeps like it's actually timing something despite the lack of you know, a display.

Just came to my knowledge that 3,6,9 markers are lumed blue(pretty shitty strength too) instead of orange/red which I thought before and that made my love for Milgauss a little less than before
The watch itself is beautiful, but I don't think I'd ever spend that kind of money on a Milgauss, I'd rather just get a GS
While on similar topic, are there other watches with mixed lume colours ? Maybe even different on hands from hour marks or different on different marks etc.

Compared to Rolex this is pretty mid end though.
Lower production numbers than Laurent Ferrier and muh unique styling is pretty much all it has to go on other than the lume.

Is it otherwise a realistic movie? I know sci-fi hasn't been caring about realism in general for a long time now, I'm not surprised they care even less about realistic personal equipment, including watches.
