4c/4t is too bad today. 2600 is more time resilient, but those CPUs suffered so much with the security vulnerabilities.. they regressed back to Nehalem in most tasks. I wonder how long you will be there for it, 2500fag

Why? Doesn't it bother you that SSD performance in sliced clean in half from all the security mitigations because intel has used 200+ speedhacks over the course of the last decade?

Make a RAM disk 90% of your free RAM and then open chrome and just keep opening 9gag tabs until you have like 100 and keep switching between them. Your shit will grind to a halt.

It's not just gaming FPS that's being sliced off every year but SSD performance is getting fucking NUKED to the point where SATA SSDs will soon be only somewhat more faster than mechanical hard drives.

How bad have the performance crippling security mitigations been so far? Meltdown and spectre alone slice SSD performance in half, right?

I had an i5-6400 build about a year ago before I switched to AMD. It was running a 960 evo and only about half cap was used.

Anyway I started feeling my OS "sticking" like for a split second but played it off as windows being a piece of shit like usual. Except it got worse and worse and worse. The performance regressions are real.

If you don't have a rig yet: avoid intel AT ALL COSTS

Most likely all the security mitigations that you require for the most bare minimum security possible. These include heavy performance regressions on I/O, core, latency, and a whole bunch of other things. People running running VMs are going mentally insane because of intel right now. The only real solution if not trash their entire hardware and upgrade to AMD is to double the resources.

Pic related is just broadwell with not even all the 20+ meltdown/spectre mitigations. God knows how heavy the performance regressions are on a mobile 2010 i5.

Consider "upgrading" to a used 2500u laptop at least. Microcenter had them for $190 a couple of weeks ago. Ebay might fare better tho.

So the 50+ security mitigations required for the most BARE MINIMUM security possible has nothing to do with this, right?

Random 4KB block read performance is sliced in half, the main thing that dictates how quickly programs (especially those with lots of small files) load and what partly limits your multi-tasking speed to.

Pic related is pretty outdated though, intel has now broken 10+ different meltdown and spectre vulnerability variants which require their own security patch. Once you get to RIDL/Fallout/Zombieload/MDS stuff CPU core performance is thrashed along with more I/O performance. Fact is intel is pretty much pozzed these days and th performance hits only get worse the older the intel CPU is.

I would highly consider an upgrade to zen 2 + dram SSD if you want to feel a noticeable jump in responsiveness in a computer. Black friday usually has some pretty based deals at microcenter. In fact they sold 3600 + x570 combis for like $300 in july so black friday might be even better.

How much gaymen performance do intel processors lose once you FULLY enable ALL 30+ bios/windows security mitigations AND disable hyperthreading for the most basic security possible?

AFAIK SSD performance LITERALLY gets katana'd in half from v1 spectre and v1 meltdown security mitigations ALONE.

Now how many security mitigations do you have fully enabled? Spectre and Meltdown tend to slice SSD performance in half especially on older intel processors.
