Thanks. Here's an old screenshot of the Xeon in comparison.

Being locked at 3.3ghz sucks.

pitting my own SB-E 8c 3.3ghz Xeon against benchmarked Ryzen chips yields about this much. Of course, its wholly unscientific as fuck so take it with a bit of a grain of salt, but thats about what I get.

Depending on who you look at, a stock Ryzen chip will get between 1450-1650 points MT, ST gets about 140-160. Pic related is what I get.

I really need a better CPU.

Tried manually setting to 16 threads, still no go. Utilization is still limited to 8 threads, one on each core.

Look to the benchmarking side for the version, I was a lazy fuck and composted a screenshot of the recent version next to a CPU-Z screenshot from an older version.

>>59491029
Yep, and I still havent figured out whether its the board being derp (Biostar Tpower X79, apparently it acts strange with all chips because its Biostar) or if its the chip being an ES (release stepping mind you) doing it.

Works fine with cinebench and other benchmarks though. Just not CPU-Z

Still a nice chip, but 3.3ghz all-core turbo is kinda meh especially since Ryzen is about to hit and shitstomp all over it.

If the numbers are right the 6c/12t ryzen chips can match my xeon in MT and shitstomp it in ST.

Core for core and thread for thread, the Ryzen chips would flatten the Xeon, and for less power consumed too.

Its probably the best time to upgrade. Fuck, Ryzen shitstomps all over my SB-E Xeon in both single and multi-thread.

Beats the shit out of my Xeon.

Depends on what board you get. Some Biostar boards are bad, others are good (I know there was an LGA 775 board they made that was the best for C2D overclocking), most are fairly meh. Have a Biostar board right now, and aside from some quirks it works.

Biostar is one of those cheap but reliable (again, depends on the board) brands, but don't expect anything fancy out of what they do.

Server prototyping and testing I think. I know he gets his hands on alot of really nice high end enterprise shit.

In that same box he also sent me a Tesla M2050, which is essentially a downclocked GTX 470 with a different bios and a different heatsink. I got a PCI-E riser from a different freebie, ziptied some 70mm fans onto it, and ive run it on and off (it is GF100 based and thus a housefire after all) in that configuration.
If I had another first gen Fermi series GPU to use alongside it, say, a GT 430, I can overclock it.

Since we're comparing Cinebench scores, here's mine, naturally slower since I dont have 2.

Having a Xeon is fun for multi-threaded stuff.

Really wish though I could overclock this Xeon.

Running at 3.3ghz, and the single core turbo is fucked all to hell because my board a shit.

As the owner of a single E5-2690, I can tell you now that it makes for an OK gaming chip. Not the best due to the lower than normal clock speed, but with all cores at 3.3ghz it works well enough.

They're also more expensive than a 2670, so you'll have to make a choice.
