SB-E Xeon, although I do have a pair of 32nm Quad-core LGA 1366 Xeons (1 in use)

16MB is only slightly smaller than the effective L3 cache size i have on my Xeon. Yeah, it says 20MB, but 2560KB of it is constantly taken up by the contents of the L1 and L2 caches of each core. Result: I have about 17.5MB of useable L3 cache.

My question though is how much have they managed to improve their cache system? Because in the construction cores it was fucking terribad and was a not-insignificant contributor to how bad those chips were.

well, I for the most part use this chip mainly as my daily driver with a side of distributed computing thrown in. Going up to 16GB would give me quite a bit of breathing room over what I've got right now. Problem is, my board only has 4 dimm slots, so I have to go get a 4x4GB kit to go there. And this piece of shit Biostar board is picky as hell.

As the owner of one, you can, but performance wont be as great as on a CPU that prioritizes single thread performance.

Mine is about the same as a stock non-turboed 2500k in single thread performance. Useable, but not spectacular.

Oh hai.

Speaking of i7s and Xeons, I have an LGA 1366 board I need to get built up, but the problem is I need to flash the bastard with a newer bios, because the current bios only accepts C0 stepping i7 chips.

So, should I upgrade from this Xeon to an 8c Zen when it comes out, or should I stick with my original plan to go to a cheap 12c HW-E Xeon?

Good for moar coars and more PCI-E lanes vs the consumer sockets, but not really much beyond that.

Xeons are fun though.

And aside from the occasional distributed computing I rarely make use of all of it. But it was a freebie so I'm not complaining.

Twas a freebie, and the dude who gave it to me A: didnt have a 2687W, and B: was too stingy to give me the 2690v2 (10c, same clocks) he had.

>>54282705
About 20-22 months now. I got the board, CPU, and Ram as a freebie from the previous owner of the hardware. The GTX 660 i got second-hand from a family member when he upgraded to a GTX 960 for his rig. The Patriot Pyro, while being a meh-tier SSD, I got practically brand new in a trade. Except for the 1.4TB drive ($65 pre-floods, tore it out of the external enclosure), the other two spinners were freebies.

>>54282699
And if I had the money I'd think about purchasing that from you, but as I dont, and this is 4chan to boot, I dont see it happening.

Also, CPU-Z so turbo clocks are shown.

Same architecture, just moar coars and less clock rate. I dont intend on upgrading it until a 8c/16t system core setup is available for sub 1k.

An AMD Phenom II 940 BE in the bedside rig
A Q9400 in the emergency spare rig
and a Pentium M 760 in the toy rig.
