my 5820k from 2014 that I paid under $300 for back then is still holding up.

No fucking shit, and it's embarrassing.

The 6800k is one of intel's highest OC'ing parts.

Stock is 3.4GHz with a 3.6GHz turbo and it OC's to 4.2GHz+ on all 6 cores easily.

Why anyone would run it under 4GHz is beyond me, they're either retarded, or man children who don't understand how to use the CPU they purchased.

Lol good sources there, I asked for specifics on what an E5 V3 xeon has my 5820k doesn't.

I already mentioned the lack of ECC support which for me is fairly pointless. I'm not running some 24/7 memory intensive operations. I'm encoding a lot however, so more cores is going to help me.

So please enlighten me as to how exactly you think the increased cost of the Xeon would EVER pay off for me? It offers LESS performance, at 2x the cost.

it comes down to your chip and your motherboard.

6800k and 5820k readily trade blows once overclocked depending on your particular chip.

My 5820k can hit 4.7GHz stable with only 1.33v, so I could probably beat the average 6800k in a direct head to head. But for my 24/7 OC i keep it between 4.1 and 4.3Ghz

this is why I went intel. My 6 core gets around 1300cb, that 8 core gets barely even close to 700cb.

Not to mention it wasn't even all that expensive, $280 for the CPU on sale + a $150 motherboard, it's more than AMD for sure, but for literally 2x the performance...
