Beautiful watch.
Can I ask how much you made last year?

Make sure to post a picture of your Datejust as well, I have a blue face-smooth bezel that is currently being serviced.

An Air-King Precision. Why? Because he is probably going to fuck it a little, even if he acts responsable for his age so repairing it/finding parts should be a taken into account. He is probably underdevelopped yet so a big watch will look ridiculous and become obstrusive of wrist and hand movement.
>Who would'nt want a watch like pic related?
If it turns out he really likes watches, let him work to earn himself a more coveted reference, let him become a man.
HOWEVER, you should also measure if this will actually make him good in the long term. Having a luxury item like a Rolex at such a young age can seriously mess with perception of reality and put your nephew in a race to become a douchebag who thinks he is better than others simply cause he has a shinny piece of metal in the wrist.
Also, that watch (by simply saying Rolex) is going to be a pussy magnet among impressionable girls and that does come with risks. You woun't want to be a grand-uncle so soon, would you?
If you must gift it, you then must seat with your nephew and explain him some ground rules, wichever you find suitable for his benefit.

That seems to me like a black faced Leman Triple Date Moonphase in steel.
It's a nice watch overall with a useful complication in an elegant 38mm case.

A well preserved example of that reference goes for about 3600 to 3900 USD with a practically LNIB hiting the 4k mark. A more banged one should sell for about 3.2k.
In any case, you should try to buy a complete example (box, papers, pouch, warranty, even if not valida anymore) like pic related or ask for a considerable reduction in the price if there isn't any of the formers.

The interesting thing here is that, apparently, the black dial in steel is a bit rare so that's a plus, although it shouldn't increase the price by more than a couple of hundreds.

Couple of links I found with more detailed information:

By now I actually own two PAMS;

The first, that have been posted here before is my PAM161, a 44mm Luminor GMT wich has the original Panerai out-of-production bracelet, with semicircular titanium and steel links, wich I love although I don't use very often, as I rather have it on colorful straps like >pic related and

My PAM292 with piggy dial, wich, If I'm honest, I rarely use since almost from the beggining I discovered the ceramic case is extremely vulnerable to cracking if hited in the right (or wrong, whatever) angle and I'm afraid to break it into oblivion. I think it hasn't been out of the vault for more than six months. ;_;

I'm honored you decided to ask me. Couple of questions first mate:
1. What do you do for living?
2. What's your lifestyle?
3. Do you own any more watches? Wich?

This simple questions will help me offer a better and richer answer.

>>9869919
Apparently is not a difference in depreciation, bur rather finishing techiniques. Still, I don't watch speculate, that's a sureway to loose money and don't enjoy your watches.

That would only mean that the engraved balance wheel and escapement bridges pushed the price a bit more than a grand. Funny, it never poped in my mind to learn about the price of a normal edition, I was just happy there was still one special edition on sale. I'm still happy in fact.

When you get yours I hope you post pics of the movement, so we can compare finishings, I'm very curious. Cheers!!!

Between the watchbox, the inner ring behind the crystal and the dials I counted the word "Rolex" wrroten aprox. 27 times. Fucking branding, seriously, is like an Armani Exchange outfit with the A|X all over.
Wouldn't you contemplate buying other brands??

>>9867475
WOW. The price has seriously dropped, more than 2/3. I wonder what kind of impact will this have on the finishing grade on the movement. Maybe is the lack of engraved gold balance wheel and escapement bridges? Still, at this price, I think I may get another, even if just for gifting to a friend.

It is indeed too sporty, but that's not all; I think I have never seen a black metal watch matching well with a suit. Unless you don't have any other watches you should try something else.

Well, it is a 750K usd watch afterall. He probably had the money, but wasn't in the position to spend that much on a single watch.

Yes, I was wearing my AP Millenary 4101, one of my favorite pieces.

Just imagine the idea of entering this luxurious boutiques to buy a watch and the people attending you is wearing a G-Shock or even worse, an entry-level piece from a competition brand. It simply can't be.

I'm actually friend of several agents working in the boutiques; they don't own the pieces, and they won't enjoy a good discount on one unless they have been working to the same luxury group (Richmont, Swatch, Festina, LVMH, etc...) for at least two or three years.

The watches they wear are for advertising and get stored in the boutique safe before the day ends every day.

Two concrete examples of this:

I've known Jerome Lambert (Montblanc current CEO and JLC former CEO) for almost a decade now. He normally assists to the watch fairs and there he offers a dinner in wich he entertains some of the best known local collectors (and me, obviously).

If I don't mess up the dates, I think, at the dinner held in 2011 fair (when he was till directing JLC) he was wearing a very complicated Reverso, The Grand Complication À Triptyque (pic related) I ask him if it belonged to him and he answered he wouldn't be able to afford it but he was in fact trying to sell it (the last of the 75 pieces edition) to another guest at the dinner, reason he brought it from Switzerland.

On another ocassion, I was invited to a party held by AP when they launched a collaboration to fund new artistis in Lationamerica, starting with MACO in Mexico. The party was awesome but when the guests left I managed to stay to the afterparty. Then the light went on and a couple of gentleman passed with a portatil safe (the kind they have in Vegas) and collected all the watches the agents were wearing during the event (for a moment they even tried to collect mine, lol). Later, we stayed partying until like 6 a.m.

All the watches in question weren't theirs.

If Apple can offer such discount is because the iShit is shit and even they know it in secret.

Well, almost. They are "hand finished" and not completely btw.

Black polishing one single bridge can take a full day, geneva striping a medium sized plate wolud take even a week, and that's before anglage, perlage, engraved writing, dusting...

Also, you have to account material reasearch, caliber developping, degree of complication in the movement, prime material waste, etc...

Just a very, very few watchmakers go into a total hand made process; it's extremely slow and fatigating.

They are so expensive because there is no other way to achive that kind of finishing but under the pacient hands of a true artist and this fellas are dedicated to produce an almost perfect excersice of unchallenged and beautiful engineering.

>Pic related, the unbelievable amount of work put on the swan-neck regulator and hand engraved balance wheel's bridge on my Lange.

Both pieces are less than 6mm long and the engraver spends lmost a whole work day to make the engraving, barely visible in my bad taken pic; this means he makes aroun 25 per month. You do the math.
